I made this last night and its addictive! I did not follow the recipe. Just made whipped cream from scratch & added a touch of powdered sugar, vanilla, and a very small amount of almond extract. Let me tell you, I couldn't stop dipping the left over graham crackers in the left over whipped cream while making dinner! My strawberries weren't the sweetest, so I sprinkled a tiny bit of vanilla sugar on each layer instead of mixing it in a bowl with the strawberries cause that would've created juice & that's not what I was going for. I waited about 3 hours before digging in to the "cake" and it was PERFECT! Not too sweet and the almond extract really complimented the overall flavor. I was inspired by a commenter who mixed the extract with their strawberries. Oh, and I used canned hershey's chocolate syrup.

Whether you choose Euro or American, stick with one style throughout the meal. I also think it depends on the predominant culture of the people you're dining with. The key is to not do anything at the table to distract people from the food & conversation. Besides what others have stated, its rude to not offer to help with clean-up. The host/ hostess should not have to cook AND clean.

I made this for breakfast yesterday and it was delicious! I even messed up the recipe (added 3/4 cup brown sugar instead of 1/3 cup on top of the apples when it should've gone in the bottom of the pan. And put the cinnamon/sugar/ginger mixture in the bottom of the pan. I was afraid it would come out too sweet, but it was perfect! I also used a mandolin to slice the apples, which made it easier to get uniform thickness.

I've made this dish quite a few times after seeing it in Bon Appetit and have forgotten to reserve the pasta water more times than not.

I love how my lips tingle from all the pepper :-)

For a pop of color, I like to add sweet green peas.

Clean thoroughly.

Light incense and walk throughout the house with it making sure to trace the door frame of each room before entering.

Say a short prayer in each room.

I don't know where I got it from, it just seemed like a good thing to do.

I recently planted chives, basil, and parsley. The instructions on the mini-pots say to transplant them to bigger pots when they reach 3'' in height. What's the best way to transplant them without killing them? And when can I start using them?

@ jillianrose: My friend & I are planning a bridal shower & we bought large colorful flowers on 12ft ribbon at Party City. We're going to string them across the ceiling. Look in the wedding aisle. They also have tons of Cinco de Mayo decorations in stock as well. You may also want to do lanterns in assorted colors. Party City has a great deal of finds! Hope this helps.

I like the "Just Bone Me" poster above the bed in picture #6. Tee hehe! I like the look and idea, but I don't think its practical.

My grandparents used to have a problem with birds nesting on one of their porch pillars. The nest made a mess & there was bird poo all over the chair under the pillar. They put a small, creepy statue (that used to scare me as a child) on the pillar and they haven't been back since!

On Sunday nights, my girlfriends and I gather in one of our apartments with a few bottles of wine, drink, nibble on snacks, and talk until 11:30pm. Ha, I don't know how we wake up on time for work on Monday, but Sunday night is never dull.

Very creative! I have an ANABODA Ikea dresser and I'm bored with the bland design. So I decided I could take off the draw handles and attach a knob where the screws for the original handle used to be. After seeing this post, I'll make the change this weekend :-)

Shout out to the tin of Bag Balm in pic #55! I love that stuff :-)

My favortie parts of your house are the spiral stair case, kitchen sink, chair opposite the couch, shoes displayed in that high nook opposite the stairs. I also like how you've organized your books and trinkets according to color.

Your home looks like a nice place to chill. Great combination of modern and antique pieces.

Another house tour from my home town, YAY!!
I love the wooden floors throughout your home (makes me want to run & slide on the floor wearing socks, lol), the colors, and spacious layout. The rug in the room with the white couch is beautiful.

I'd never think to use so many different colors at once, but this is really inspiring & brings warmth to your home.

I'll have to agree with some of the others about DiBruno Brothers being a nice place, but I go elsewhere for special occasion food items like Down Town Cheese & the Amish meat stand in back of Iovine brothers, and Salumeria for salami and things. You can find all of these stores in Reading Terminal. Just don't go on the weekends, unless you're a tourist. Its waaaay too crowded!

TJ's has a good selection too, and their prices are nice!

But, I do enjoy grabbing a cool beverage & snack at DiBruno's in the summer after a stroll through Rittenhouse on the weekend. The window or sidewalk seats are perfect for people watching!

I can appreciate the fresh cranberry relishes, but there's nothing like a sliver of canned cranberry sauce. It's perfect every time! My grandmother taught me how to display it so people think its homemade. Not sure if they're totally fooled, but it sure looks purty ;-)
