I keep a shaker full of my homemade seasoned salt: 1/4 cup of salt, 3 tablespoons white pepper, 3 tablespoons onion powder, 3 tablespoons garlic powder.

It's quick for almost any kind of meat.

I always take the unopened bottles of shampoo, etc. They look very nice in a basket in the bathroom my stay over guests use. I've also bundled them up and given them to my young nieces. They get a kick out of the tiny bottles and miniature bars of soap.

I accidentally stole a hairdryer once. My roommate at a conference left a day earlier than I did and I found a bag with a hairdryer in it in the bathroom. Since the hotel didn't have hairdryers affixed to the wall and I had brought my own, I assumed it was hers. I e-mailed her the next day to tell her I was going to mail it to her.

She responded and told me it was the hotel's.

Oops. It never did show up on my credit card. It isn't a particularly nice one, but I've got it stashed away for the next time mine gives up the ghost.

I feel terrible for the folks here who are dealing with unemployment. I feel even worse for the ones who have kids to support.

It may be character building to cope with it, but I suspect a lot of people have more than enough character built up and are past being ready for it to end.

I love yellow walls in a kitchen. Kitchens are so broken up with cabinets and appliances, it would be hard for the yellow to become overwhelming. It's sunny and cheerful.

The "after" is so much better than the "before".

The before looks like the bathroom Elvis Presley died in.

Mine belonged to my grandmother. For something that must be at least sixty years old, it still slices and egg or tomato just fine.

Proving once again that tobacco is bad for you, you can use tobacco to kill them.

Take the tobacco from two cigarettes and put it into a cup of boiling water. When it cools, take the water and pour it slowly into the soil of the pots. The tobacco will kill the flies and the larvae within a few days.

I've used this for house plants and it takes care of the problem.

When I lived near Chicago, my car had to be tested every year for pollutants. In the rural area I live in now, it never has to be tested. That part's not good, but it speaks to the quality of the air 150 miles away from The Really Big City.

The almost 90 years old widower next door has a patch of rhubarb that his wife planted and used for pies. The rhubarb should be about ready for cutting sometime this week and he has offered it to me.

He said that his "pie maker has gone to heaven".

I'm hoping there is enough there for four strawberry rhubarb pies and that the grocery store has a sale on strawberries. Two pies for the widower to share with his family, one for us, and one more for the new neighbor who moved in next door.

It never hurts to provide a homemade pie for the police officer who just moved in next door.

That first shower curtain looks terrifying. Like it is going to suffocate or drown you.

Not in my house.

Every single poster has made an excellent point for what they do or don't do.

My system works best by doing meal planning. I shop every other week, unless there is something stupendously on sale during the off week - such at $1.99/pound asparagus. Unless the milk sours, I stay out of grocery stores until it is time for the regularly scheduled shopping trip.

That keeps incredibly yummy looking pastry impulse purchases down to a minimum.

It is practical. Large enough to hold soup or a portion for lunch, but small enough to fit in my lunch container.

It has the blue thing on top that you can pop to let steam vent when you use it in the microwave. The only problem is that when the food is hot and you pry the whole lid off, it can end up splattering you with hot soup or steam. I've learned to take the top off and rest it on top of the container when I'm heating something. It'll catch the splatters without splattering on you when you remove it.

On the other hand, the price per pound for recycled materials has plummeted. For a while last spring, the local sheltered workshop paid out $.64 a pound for aluminum cans. Now, they are paying out $.15 a pound.

At that price, people who want to get a little cash by recycling aren't getting enough to make it worth their while. The sheltered workshop's recycling center used to be open five days a week. It is now open one day a week because business is so poor.

I've found that reusable containers meet my needs for most storage. I have some plastic wrap in my house, but only use it when I make soap to wrap it as gifts.

I use lidded roasting pans, so I don't need foil as a cover. I put silicon baking sheets on my flat pans when I'm roasting something that needs more of a sheet pan.

I've had the same rolls of aluminum foil and plastic wrap for years.

I like how you attached the pots to the side of the cabinet and gained additional storage with easy access. Well done, even for a temporary arrangement.

I hope that you will get the studio you've always wanted.
