My family has this thing where you have to hold your hands above your head while the gifts are being handed out--depending on how many people are present, it can take a while and it doesn't matter if you're 4 or 50--hands above the head regardless. 10 minutes of holding your hands above your head most years. Then we do a big huge countdown and all open presents at once. Hiding the Pickle & Other Weird Holiday Traditions |

We are taking our 1 and 3 year old sons to Tuscany this October. Any suggestions on good toddler activities (other than berry picking)? They can pretty much have fun with two sticks and a wooden bowl, but just thought I'd ask. One Week in Tuscany La Casa di Cacchiano, Monti in Chianti |

If you don't know anyone with kids and you don't have a consignment shop near you (that you know of) you can also join an online clothing swap such as Thred Up. (I think it's thredup.com) Tips For Organizing Baby Clothes |

I giggled because I thought about exactly how long it would take before this is completely covered in drool. (in my house, about 10 seconds). 2012 Trends: Lucite Furniture in the Nursery? |

It's an...odd choice. But you know, baby isn't going to be staring at the walls. Mama and Daddy probably will be (at 3am), so if this is what makes them happy, go for it. Palm Springs-Inspired Nursery D Magazine |

I have this exact gate (to keep our dogs in the kitchen and our children OUT of the kitchen). It attaches to the walls, so they can't knock it down (unless they are stronger than my children..or my dogs). It does its job, but Everyone trips over the bar at the bottom, without fail.

Unfortunately, all of the daycares we've looked into (including the one our sons currently attend) do not deal with cloth diapers. (as in, not allowed, you must supply disposables) I'm wondering if anyone else has had that experience or is that just a central TX thing? A Look Inside Cloth Diapers |

I totally agree. Plus, like someone else said, it's easier to sleep/doze if you know your baby is strapped to your chest; however Tips for Flying With A Lap Child |

Just flew yesterday with a 2.5 year old and 6mth old (yes, that was us you heard where the screaming was). FYI, if you're banking on the soft carrier option for your infant, be aware that most airlines will make you take the baby out of the carrier for both take off and landing, which really really sucks when your exhausted infant finally fell asleep that last hour and you still have to make it that last 20 minutes til you can de-plane. Here is a link to the Baby 411 book. I like it because it really gives clear and concise info about what constitutes an "emergency" in infant illnesses and really helpful information about things like what the difference between a bacterial and viral infection is, when you should go to the ER and when you shouldn't. But also information on nutrition and other first year things. My pediatrician recommended it and I thought it was really helpful and easy to read. I received a Nose Frida at my shower and thought it was the most disgusting thing I had ever heard of. I was NOT going to be syphoning snot out of my kids nose by anything attached to my mouth.... Cut to 6mths later and I'm buying the spongeguard refills--BEST shower gift. I think maybe a "middle of the night" basket--filled with things that they might need on that night when baby is sick and they don't want to (or can't) run out to the pharmacy--- nose frida, saline drops, gas drops, infant pain reliever, rectal thermometer--The Baby 411 book (excellent book, by the way).
