What about painting it a really glossy teal? With slightly more greens. With all of those pastels I think I see in the background, some pop would be necessary. If you are not a fan of teal, try another highly saturated color. How to Refinish Heirloom Desk? Good Questions |

I would go with a white subway tile effect. Add some gloss to that gray cabinet and some retro hardware to the cabinets. I would embrace the retro pink counters especially if you cannot replace them. _just my two cents Is This Backsplash Makeover Worth the Effort? |

Not sure if this is an option, but since you like mod is it possible to go for color on the inside of your fireplace? Like a pop of red or teal high gloss in the interior. As for a top find some interestingly shaped candle sticks or vases, or even sculpture, have it painted the same high gloss color and create a scene on top of it. Just make sure to layer the items and use things of varying heights. With the one color that would be very modern, and perfect for contrasting the white. Ideas for Decorating with a Corner Fireplace?
