Whoops! Sorry about that single digit non-response.

Instead of the posters, I would recommend a window film (other patterns are available, here's and example:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100062721 )

Ditto a washable rug (or just a cheap one).

Get a neutral curtain for under the sink. Measure first! Maybe a brown cloth shower curtian? To do it quick and cheap, get a roll of sticky back velcro from the hardware store and affix the curtain to the backside of the counter ledge. Use Stitch Witchery to hem?

Tablecloth (cream) over the table by the chair. Put the magazine basket that's under the sink on that table.

Get a new corkboard or paint the existing one (regular old craft paint should do fine).

I've often attributed it to my mom being Japanese and my dad having grown up "in the country" but my favorite breakfast consisted of eating grits with a little bit of butter, a splash of soy sauce and shredded seaweed. Its probably an acquired taste, but I do love it so. Does it help that we also had a fried egg or two on the side?

My second favorite is fried grits (must be triangle shaped) with a wilted spinach/watercress salad with hot bacon shallot dressing.

dust dust mites kitty cats = :*( (thats a red nose from excessive blowing)

We've got two very furry, longhaired, indoor, spoiled cats that will not be leaving any time soon. One of them (not both, thank god) spends the night with my on a specially designated "cat pillow" at the head of the bed, with my "hooman pillow" set below it. Brushing them frequently is a necessity... I dont do it as often as I should, about 4x weekly. Ditto the furminator-type brushes--they take off ridiculous amounts of hair.

I had an air filter, but it actually seemed to make my allergies worse. I think maybe it was drying the air out too much. We do a pretty thorough cleaning of the whole house every weekend, dusting, window washing, vacuuming carpeted (bedrooms) and non-carpeted (everything else) areas, occasionally mopping, vacuuming the couch sometimes occurs twice/weekly. We also got a shark (rechargable stand-up sweeper vacuum) that my husband uses every day to catch fur tumbleweeds and stray bits of kitty litter.

I find that my home-related allergies are only noticible on the weekends. My lifesaver, as another poster mentioned, has been Zyrtec. None of the other brands/formulas/etc. have helped. I take one Friday night, Saturday and Sunday and I'm good to go.

Add me to the list of mandoline victims. I used the safety guard, but my hands were wet and it slipped, taking a chunk of my pinky finger with it.
I immediately grabbed my hand and somehow knocked the phone off the hook and called my husband. He took me to the emergency room, but no stitches could have been made (it was a clean cut and its not like theres a whole lot of extra skin for them to pull together).
Best part was getting home and discovering, in all of my panicked flapping around, I had turned the gas stove on (but it didnt light) so we had to spend the night on the main level of our loft apartment with the windows wide open and pray we didnt die in our sleep.

slim, thats a brilliant idea!

i've got a small garden (two tomato plants, jalepeno, green onion, chives and a kabocha plant). this weekend i'll be adding herbs. my choices were all about planing things that i use frequently. sure 99 cents for a bundle of cilantro is nothing, but i feel horrible when i can't/won't/don't use it all and it goes bad.

Wow, I remember going there as a kid with my mom (and get scolded for poking at the crabs)! We lived at 15th Street & Mission (actually on Minna St.) and would walk up to that particular seafood shop! It's really different living here in the 'burbs of DC.

Amy, fake DCite (live in VA, work in DC) here. LOVE what you did with the bathroom. I love the paper you used and WISE chose to change out the shower curtain... I imagine it was pretty dark in there before!

You might even have some luck trying the dollar store or Wal-Mart (which I hate, but often have cheaper solutions than Target).

Also, to decrease the cluttered look, I'd turn the magazine boxes around (we've got the same ones) -- which may not be practical for everyone. I've also bought some pretty paper that I plan on (one day) covering just the front panel with and adding pretty labels.

Wow, that image brought back a flood of memories before I even read the post. I've been in DC for 10 years now, but SF was once "home."

If I recall correctly, those tiles appear in several stations.

No New Years Day plans, but we'll be hosting a 3rd Annual New Years Eve Pajama party (we all got sick and tired of finding someplace everyone could agree on to go to then shell out a lot of cash for a mediocre time). Since my husband will be headed to China shortly thereafter it will be Asian themed... Teriyaki Chicken Wings, Asian Potato Salad, Shrimp and Beef (separately) skewers with dipping sauces, Wasabi an Shrimp Cheese Ball, Egg Rolls and Shu Mai are all on the menu. Does anyone have any suggestions for Asian-esque champagne cocktails (or non-champagne cocktails)???

Why wasn't I invited? ;-) Was everything served buffet style? Do you have a recipe for the Ginger Cosmo punch? I'm having a [Chinese] New Year's Eve party (my husband is leaving for a trip to China the following week) and that might be a good addition to the menu.

This was so delicious! I improvised with the spices a little bit, but didn't stray very far from the recipe. Following the fluffier couscous recipe didn't yeild couscous that was any fluffier than how I normally make it (in pot, boil water, add couscous, oil/butter, lemon juice, stir, cover, leave, eat).
