I saw a post last year on another blog with a link to an iCal with home maintenace tasks: https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/9fjf6vkf1ou50j2umnju2lnrss%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

My parents planned on having my brother and myself with birthdays in the late part of the year (his is in December, mine's in January) because thinking at that time did say it'd provide an advantage. However, due to various personal factors, he's never finished college and barely finished high school. I graduated high school with honors, finished college in 4 years and am working a job where I make $1/hr than he does. So... you never know.

@VEGASTRIGUY its a dip flavored to taste like a loaded baked potato (like loaded baked potato soup).

I've slipped on both carpeted and wooden stairs (same house, carpeted stairs to go to 2nd floor, wooden stairs to go to the basement). Wooden stairs created worse bruises than the carpeted ones.

Slipping on carpeting is easy if you put your foot down wrong, mostly due to losing traction (as weird as it sounds) since bare feet can "stick" to wooden stairs. However, if wearing socks/shoes/slippers most often while using stairs, they'll get better traction on carpeting than on wood. I personally prefer the aesthetic of wood stairs (or if carpet has to be there, to only be a runner), but also normally walk around home barefoot.

It is cute, but water and electronics do not mix. Unless it has an extremely long cable attached, I'd wonder what it would do to the insides of a computer, especially since it seems to be marketed towards laptops and thus internals aren't as visible.

I have stainless steel appliances that came with my apartment, but other than the fact that the front of the microwave needs cleaning after everytime I cook, I have no problems with fingerprints. My parents opted for white appliances in their new kitchen and the builders were surprised that stainless wasn't chosen.

My parents' new house has a single small window in the master bedroom (tucked in the corner next to the bathroom door no less). They hung cream drapes wall to wall in that room (behind the headboard, window's behind one of the nightstands) and everyone walking in assumes there's a lot more windows than there actually are. Previous house had a similar issue and a large number of curtains fixed the problem, especially if those curtains are left as a textural element rather than decorative.

There's one benefit to area rugs other than to cover up wall to wall carpeting. With the love of open floorplans now, area rugs help define and anchor a space that wall to wall just cannot do.

As someone struggling with a similar situation (just not quite as wide), I appreciate you asking this question. I've now gotten a much better idea on what to do with my own problem window.

I've heard of using an immersion blender as a way of making homemade mayo, so I can't imagine it would do that much damage to the eggs other purposes.

What about getting a folding hanging rack? It looks like there's room between the machines and the walls for it to be stored there. Something like http://www.amazon.com/Honey-Can-Do-GAR-01268-Collapsible-Garment-locking/dp/B001F51A2G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341869868&sr=8-2&keywords=folding+garment+rack or http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10030823&N=&Nao=20&Ntt=hanging+rack ?

I'd ask for suggestions on what sort of window treatments to use in my living room and if there's something that can be done with the tall walls I've got.

I scored an 8 as well. Guess there is a reason my mother always asks me to help pick out colors for decorating!

My main cooking is food to bring to work for lunches (ham yesterday, baked mac and cheese last week, etc). Food for me to eat at home tend to be more quick-fix type things that I can't have at work (eggs, hot dogs, grilled cheese, french toast (from frozen), etc). As a result, it doesn't feel like I have to do as much cooking since the major messes tend to be once or twice a week. Plus, the variety at dinner time keeps me from getting bored with the less variation in lunch (4 days or so in a row of the same thing).

I live alone and I actually generally run the dishwasher daily. The only things I handwash are my knives, everything else fits into the dishwasher (including my 8 qt stock pot).

I might be a bit of a weirdo, but even though I cook for one, I don't mind cooking meals that are geared for 3-4 people. Why? Because I take the leftovers and have them for food for the rest of the week (usually lunch at work, while dinner is things like a bowl of cereal or quick sandwich or something).

For those interested in the Goliath table, Sabrina Soto used it in her show High/Low Design (it was in the high-end design) and they actually DIY'd a version for the low-end design. The slides had to be ordered online (no mention where of course), but its otherwise a very basic design.

I'd never answer a friend's phone, but will let them know it rang while they were gone (or made a noise to let them know of incoming mail/text/etc). I've never answered a relative's phone but I have a memory of my grandmother's phone ringing one time (during a holiday dinner) and someone asked for Mrs. When they couldn't answer which one (there were about 7 women who all answered to that name), we had a good idea of what the call was about.

Well, considering my mom introduced me to romance novels when I was in elementary school (age appropriate books were too simple for my reading level) and one of the pictures I've had on the wall of my bedroom for ages did have a nude woman in it (gotta love Dali's love of his wife), I don't think anything would shock my parents at this point.

Forgot to mention, across the street from TJ's is a Fresh Market and if I go slightly out of my way home, I can pass by both a Whole Foods and a Bigg's-Remke (and yet another Kroger, the joys of living in its hometown).

I drive by 3 Krogers and a Meijer to and from work every day. One of those Krogers being their flagship store, and its the one that I shop at most frequently (its the first one I reach on my way home, and since I work til late, gives me the maximum amount of time to shop vs going to one of the other 2 since all 3 close at the same time). The only Trader Joe's nearby is not terribly far from where I work, but is in an absolutely horrid location, so I tend to not shop there at all.
