Put the couch and rug on an angle!

We have a long rectangular living room too and putting our couch and area rug on an angle at the end of the room really helped to break up the boxiness.

In your case, maybe put the TV in the corner by the window (of the same wall that it is currently on) and then angle the sofa to match the angle of the TV. The sofa should be angled but closer to the right wall, not centered in the room because you want to be able to have a visual (and real!) walkway on the left side of the area.

In addition, use two area rugs to make two distinct spaces.

I have the same rug in my living room!! That makes me feel so good! It's from Lowe's - a great place to find affordable rugs but this was one of the few with any style. Most of the "contemporary" patterns are horrible with dark, muddy coloring. But this one was a true find!

Just moved to Meridian, MS last summer and the nearest IKEA is 4 hours away in Atlanta. Sigh. We drove through B'ham when we made a trip to Atlanta for a Phillie's game and I was able to squeeze in a much-needed trip to IKEA. There are few options down here in the South!

Thanks for posting this! I Just made my first chicken soup last night!

I called my Mom to ask if I should put the skins back in the broth (in addition to the bones) to simmer and she seemed astonished that I was going to simmer the bones overnight. She told me I was going to get jello...like it was a bad thing!

Can't wait to show her this! And to try the soup tonight with dinner - complete with veggies and dumplings from the recipe posted on this site! Thanks!
