1. Be careful coming through customs bringing back spices and foods. Sometimes they will confiscate them, I have seen it happen :-(

2. The silver platters and service that you can get in the Mexico City area, and especially Taxco is amazing. I have a leaf platter and a set of salad/serving spoons from there and they look amazing when you're preparing a big meal.

3. Even though I know you can get it by mail in the US I love Mexican molcajetes! Check out this one from Williams and Sonoma http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/molcajete-lava-stone-mortar-and-pestle/

They are essentially a mortar and pestle made from volcanic rock. When I lived in Mexico the mama that I stayed with would actually heat the rock on the stove and cook thinly sliced meat, cactus, and other fajita-like ingredients inside of it. Delicious!

looks like something I'd definitely consider buying since I have limited storage space in my apartment, but they'd have to be made of some durable metal and have some weight to them for me to really be enticed

I don't know about you but soaking my travel mug in denture cleaner or vinegar everyday would be annoying. Just buy another travel mug. I keep one for tea and one for coffee and have never had an issue. Or like someone else said. Keep a mug at the office to drink coffee from? I highly recommend contigo travel mugs!

One Christmas I was helping my parents make dinner in the kitchen when we noticed the ceiling looked a little saggy. We decided to ignore it, but it decided otherwise. Just as we were about to eat water burst from the ceiling drenching everything in that corner of the kitchen and practically flooding the floor. Apparently there was about a week's worth of leaky pipe water just waiting for an opportune moment to strike.
