The blanket is from Hudson's Bay- a great piece of Canadiana.

my grandparents immigrated from England to Canada- they put carpet in their bathroom and in their kitchen- I get the reasons, however- the ick factor far outways any comfort factor.
another thing- what if a toilet overflowed or a sink spilled or bathrtub overflowed- it happens.

I have a friend who had the same problem. Lucky for her- her mother managed to sew a cover for it. something like this http://www.petcratesdirect.com/dog-crate-covers-canine-cabana.html
only it was in a fabric that matched her curtains. unfortunately- it is what it is....a dog crate. This is probably the cheapest concept- have fun with it- if you google this idea you will see lots of people go a bit crazy- pillows, blankets--depends what you like

If you purchase a wallpaper that is not pre pasted, you can use a specific glue specially designed for high moisture areas such as bathrooms.

I think you should drywall the upper portion and creat a square niche about the same size as the framed oven below, maybe slightly smaller. I had a fireplace exactly like this in a previous home and it was a massive dust collector- a pain in the neck with furniture placement too.

without going into detail with colour schemes and theories---the easiest method is to start with an anchor piece. could be sofa, rug, whatever. base your colours from this. take a sample of your anchor piece, like a cushion, to the paint store then match the darkest colour in your piece to a paint chip--then from that choose colours based on a colour scheme you prefer. If your anchor piece has a few strong colours- match all of them to paint chips then start eliminating the ones you like least.

I think it is beautiful. The mashing of styles is perfect, the use of textures is spot on and everything works with the architectural features. however, I do think it is missing artwork and personal touches which makes a house a home.

I hope the words I write will make sense...I can see what I am trying to say in my head ;)

I think where the panels have been created- add a fairly wide wood trim to disguise the shape of the panel- particulary the top one that has a less than modern shape. So, what I mean is, add a flat square piece that is slightly larger than your panels, either like a picture frame or a completely flat panel like a square or rectangle. Then paint the panels to match your door colour- white is still nice- it is the shape of the upper panel that is dating your door. Also, change the knob, Home Depo has loads of styles to replace the round one you have now.

as somebody posted earlier- this furniture was designed with mass production in mind- not with exclusivity that exists today.
how crazy would it be 50 years from now if designers and furniture enthusiasts go through the same phenomenom over Ikea furniture.
Personally, I love the style but more so I love the inventiveness during that period in time which makes the furniture probably more relevent now that it ever was- but I am not so uppity to want or need an original- much like swagdujour said with all of the extras such as dust mites....to go along with it.

I think that either a high gloss black or a high gloss light beigy creamy colour would look really nice---slightly darker than the stucco on your elevation.
