Beautiful home...I really like how you added simple woven covers onto the couch instead of slipcovers...I also have an off-whilte canvas unholstered sofa, (inherited from parents and I loved the mid century lines, so I unholstered in some unbleached canvas). But then I ended up getting some white slipcovers so I can keep the upholstery clean...seems silly, because now I can't enjoy the nice lines of the sofa. So I think I will try to do what you guys did, it looks cozy, protects the fabric and you can still see the sofa.
BTW, can you please tell me where you got your TV cabinet...love it, and it holds stereo stuff too.

You have a very beautiful and efficient, well designed office space. What is the white strip above the IKEA desk where you have papers and pencil cup mounted...is that a metal strip? Where did you get it? I would like to make something like that above my desk area. Thanks

Great eye for all the wonderful and delectable details which fill your home. I also had a look at Laura's photography...beautiful, reminds me of how I would see things, too. I also loved the videos...especially the one titled "Miranda".

This is good because we are becoming more aware of how and from where objects around us come into being. We can appreciate that in the beginning of that chair or can openers "life" someone had to come up with it's concept and design it to be efficiently manufactured at a articular price point, so that we can buy it, take it home and use it. I can remember back when people would ask me about being a designer...most of them were surprised to find out that common, everyday objects that they could find around the house, were actually designed.

Absolutely gorgeously designed and lived in home...warm and eclectic, I love it all.
I have a similar layout in the living space of our home and your furniture layout has inspired me...however, one thing...I didn't see a TV anywhere, and as that is something that is a challenge to us, placement wise, I was wondering what you did with your one? Did you stash it in another room?

The color scheme in the entire house just flows beautifully from one corner to the next, surprising and enticing our eyes. The combination of the oranges of the paint, wood and accent accessories with the soft greens and pops of white are well thought out without being the least bit contrived. I absolutely love it...right down to the ingenious toilet roll holder!

Wow I happen to be in the middle of stenciling my curtains with one of her designs that I got from her stencil book. I came across her books at West Elm last Christmas and was thoroughly enchanted. I plan to also stencil a roller shade for th kitchen and also the upholstery fabric on a vintage 70's lounge chair that i already painted with teal colored fabric paint.

Some of you guys are making too much about his looks, instead of some good critiques about the space. I think it is well designed on the whole with lots of art which makes it more personal. However, in the bedroom, I feel the bed is overall too big for that wall, blocking some of the windows on either side. A low sleek bed with perhaps a nice textured wall hanging between the two windows would work better.

"...This particularly works when having to get rid of stuff a loved one who has passed away -- How much better to know someone is using the clothes, or kitchen ware, etc, rather than rusting or molding away?"

I really like that sentiment. This has helped me with some things that I inherited from my parents, but can't use or is just not my style. I like the idea that there is someone out there that can use these things.

I also would like to add that I love your photos that you posted of the little things that one may not always notice in events, or everyday life. Examined this way we can appreciate their utilitarian and intrinsic beauty...

What a wonderful way to begin the new year...meditation is a vital skill that is inherent in us, but somehow we all seem to have forgotten it's simplicity.
Last year, I spent 2 and a half months in an ashram in India learning meditation techniques and yoga. The Vedic approach, of course is so full of colors, and sounds, and rituals, that it seems almost opposite to the Vipassana Buddhist approach. Yet I can see that even in the seemingly chaotic styles of life that I experienced in India, there is at the center only peace and silence, and it is something I was able to carry with me as I go through my own daily chaos of clutter and stuff. In any case, after returning, I did feel a need to change my environment, and have been redesigning my home room by room to reflect the simplicity that comes with good design, while still rejoicing in the colored "chaos" that life dances before our eyes.

Wonderful home...full of great things and lots of love! Was wondering how difficult/time consuming it was to resurrect the Bertoia chairs and I would like to know where you got the shower curtain? Thanks...

My Navy fiance of years ago once taught me his "Navy T-shirt folding technique", and I still use it today, having taught it also to my 3 sons. But it looks nothing like the video of the Navy guy, actually the end result is similar to the Japanese technique, except that there is another fold in half - top to bottom - at the end, so that you end up with a smaller folded T-shirt, which fits very well into my T-shirt basket on my closet shelf, stacking beautifully.
