How do you paint countertop?

Oh I'm so impressed by this. GREAT JOB. (I'm a working mom myself, so I can just imagine the mess, possibly stress and effort, energy put into this).

My kitchen is so similar to your before so now you've inspired me to invest in painting my cabinets and countertops. Small investment to make the kitchen 10x better until we can afford to completely redo everything (I do mean things like wiring, etc--we have an older house).

I'm bookmarking this to show my hub when he comes home from work tonight :D

I feel a little better now reading the comments :)

Money can be a problem at times. Our house is in the middle of reno (DIY) also and it's a never-ending project (it seems, it's going on 1 year).
Our furniture looks like crap (thanks to our toddler who managed to do everything possible to them since the day he's born) and we're not purchasing anything new yet because we're too stingy (ok, we need to money for bills and paying for reno) to buy anything new until we've painted the living room (another project that keeps getting postponed due to our schedule).

And there are other important factors: We overstress. Overplan. My husband ends up overcooks things too LOL (he always insists on cooking the maindish-turkey or ham) the maindish always ends somewhat..cooked a little too long in the oven. Then the cleaning up BEFORE and AFTER. UGH.

We keep the entertaining into 2 times a year (Thanksgiving and Christmas).

I'm of Chinese-Japanese descent, so I'm used to the shoes-off tradition (we actually have a 'landing spot' by the door for people to put their shoes on), BUT, my husband is American and for his family, shoes-on is the norm when you visit someone's house.

Basically these days, if my husband's family members are visiting = shoes on. I don't ask them to take them off because my husband insists on that (but in return, my husband promises to always take off his shoes at our house instead of walking through our house in his work boots).

If it's my family members/ Asian friends = shoes off (I don't have to encourage them to take 'em off, my friends and family members will do it without asked).

Smitten kitchen has this lovely recipe of spinach and chickpeas. It's oh so good and even my son would gobble 'em up (and he's pretty picky eater).

My kid is still in kindergarten (half-day-no cafeteria food yet), but he goes home learning 'fun' songs about 'McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken.'
Now he wants to go to all of those places because according to his teachers: yum yum.

But I agree, a French 3 yr old definitely eats better than me (then again, I only have coffee at lunch)...

Oh I didn't know they call salak 'snakeskin fruit' here :D

Oh I miss 'em. I found some at Fubonn nearby where I live (in a plastic package at freezer section), but you can't beat eating the fresh one, the one you got to peel when you want to eat...

Another Chinese person here. Cleaver has definitely been the 'go to' knife growing up. :)

But I've been using chef's knife (beside cleaver) too ever since I moved out of my parents's house.

But if I have to have only 1, I'd go with the cleaver.

Cap Jempol sambal or Kokita's sambal terasi or Kokita sambal blacan. Indonesian's hot sauce.

I still like tabasco on my scrambled eggs though, it gives that necessary sour and lil' kick to the breakfast.
