We haven't had cable in years, and we don't have a TV. We watch everything on our Mac, mostly Hulu and Netflix. We don't really watch a lot of TV, and we're definitely not the types to flip channels aimlessly, so it's easy for us. What I'd really like eventually is a projector--we have a great vintage estate-sale-find screen, and I'd love to watch movies on it!

Okay, once again I'm jumping in to defend books arranged by color (thanks to those above who've done the same). If you don't like how it looks, fine. But if you agree it looks pleasing, then stop assuming that everyone who does it doesn't really read! I'm an English professor and a poet, and I also have a photographic brain that can find any color-arranged book in my house (a couple thousand books total) in 30 seconds. I fully know it doesn't work for everyone, but it works for some of us, and I love how it looks. I love books and consider them beautiful objects in their own rights.

There are lots of trends I dislike, but the one that pops up in my head now is cowhide rugs. I think they're ugly and just sad: the outline of something dead on your floor. Ick.

My Icelandic poppies (so delicate and pretty) and columbine have self-seeded quite a bit--and it's so convenient to shake the seed heads around where I want more! I have Oriental poppies for the first time this year, so I'll have to try those!

I'm with Holiday05. I organize by color and it absolutely works for me (very visual memory). I have to find things for my husband, but he doesn't mind all that much, and it lets me show off my skills. :)

Thanks for the comments! SarahRae, yes, I haven't used it since I realized how scratched it was. You're right! Mandyb, that's a great idea. That way I can cook beans quickly too! I don't know why I didn't think of that. :)

Has anyone found a good rice cooker without a nonstick bowl? I know I don't *need* a rice cooker, but I love them for ease of cooking grains and I use them all the time, but my nonstick one is so scratched up I don't think it's safe to use anymore.

I soak my pans in some water for a half hour or so and then use a steel scrubber pad. It hasn't ever scratched the pans. I don't even have to scrub hard because by that point, the stains are softened by the water. It's really easy.

I disagree completely with potpie. We have the Henry sofa (not the sleeper) and it's amazing! Not only is it somewhat eco-friendly and assembled in the US, the cushions are great. I can't vouch for the sleeper, but the Henry sofa as it is is a great deal.

I love waffles, and I have one from Target that cost something like $25--totally worth it. I'd recommend a Belgian-style one. I think they make the best waffles.

Maybe a dumb question, but why compression socks? I thought you were supposed to swell before the baby is born, not after. 37 weeks right now, so I need to know! :)

I love Ecover's dishwashing tablets. The Seventh Generation gel always left a film, but these are pretty fantastic. They're individually wrapped, which is annoying, but probably they have to be.

Okay, but this is something I was wondering when I was in Ireland this summer--do hotels wash the duvet cover/comforter every time there's a new guest? It was freaking me out, actually, because it seemed that they couldn't possibly wash all those duvets every single time.

That would be my main problem with sleeping without the top sheet. My duvet cover is white and expensive and I don't want to wash it all the time.

Okay, this was my point: I'm sure I'm not the only one for whom this works. Color grouping may not be right for everyone, or even most people, but it would be great if people would realize that it works for some of us and stop saying books are "useless" if not categorized by content, or that people who "actually read" would never do this, etc.

I understand that arranging books by color is not for everyone, but I'm getting tired of the implication that it's just for people who are not "serious" about books. I'm an English professor, fiction writer, and poet, and I have a couple of thousand books. I also have a very visual, somewhat photographic memory, and can remember where the books are best when they're arranged by color; plus I love how it looks. I can pretty much find anything I want in a minute or fewer.

I know I'm in the minority as far as having this special skill, but please stop assuming that everyone who arranges books by color is using them only for "art" and not for reading. Not everyone thinks only in alphabetical order.
