I have done all of these at some point! My favorite was when he would take a bath (morning, noon or night... we kind of just wing it) and afterward he would play with his bath toys in the bathroom and I would take a shower. This way he had no desire to try to climb into the tub and could continue his little games/ playtime with his special toys.

Mom and boy were clean and happy!

I'm with painting it a masculine color... I was thinking navy or black, depending on what else you had going on in the room. Though I like the hardware myself, changing that might be a good option too... especially with the vast selection out there.

Ring Glasses from Crate & Barrel for sure! I don't stack ours but they certainly don't take up a great deal of space on the shelf. They look so much better than the nicest plastic and I still feel like a grown up when I use them. We have been using them since 2 1/2 and have yet for one to break despite being dropped on hardwood floors... repeatedly. We use the smallest ones, ninety-five cents a pop!

Natural wooden teethers will get use and be easy for the parents to store as an heirloom gift. They have so many choices like cameras, animals, states, etc... You could find one or two that speak to the familiy's interest.

Baking soda is also a great skin buffer! I like to use it on the backs of my arms to smooth out those little bumps.
Also sprinkle some in the bath to help my son's eczema.

*I am aware these aren't 'cleaning' methods per-say... but helpful anyway.

I was thinking floor length curtains. I like the texture they add to a room and I think only covering the window itself may look awkward. It will be an illusion to a large window which I think makes rooms seem bigger than little windows do. Plus you will be able to 'black-out' or not and have access to the window.

I particularly enjoy how the birds are not overwhelming but there. I love birds... we have been wanting to do a 'flight' theme (birds, airplanes, terradactyls, etc...) but don't want to seem so 'trendy'. I think this room looks vintage, cool, modern and cozy.

Congratulations on a beautiful baby and well-done room!

I asked this question to my high school French teacher and she said doing in the second language like you would the first. For instance, if you sing songs in the car or do flash cards... Have some in the second language. I did signing with my son so I kind of think of it that way. Where I would once sign and say the word in English. Now I say it a word in sentence in English and repeat in French. I have been doing this for about a month and my says chapeau and table (hat and table). I have been counting and saying body parts in Spanish as well. Very 'no pressure' kind of approach.

Pattern, routine, habit... Whatever you call it I think it is necessary not only for the adults' sanity but as well for the child's world. Imagine how you would react if your boss changed your schedule everyday or even said the day would go one way and ended up going a different way, every day?! I have met parents who treat their children this way and wonder why their kids are all over the place. I agree that things don't have to be planned down to the minute, but day to day consistency and routines not only help the adults but add a sense of security for the children as well.

For my son's 2nd birthday we made an Amazon wishlist which we will continue for Christmas. We liked it because we were able to recommend items that we knew our son would enjoy and we wouldn't hate. We didn't know how everyone would take it but it turned out to be very well received; people knew what was age-appropriate and could choose something within their price range. Books are great to put on here as well and you can, hopefully, avoid duplicates. Best of luck!!!

Thank you for all the great ideas! We actually had to party a couple weeks ago and it was a great chili buffet with fall-like fare and cider. We had the onesies in a separate room which people could do at their leisure. It was very casual and easy-going, much like the expectant parents. I will keep these idea in mind for the future though!

Rather than getting something for charity I think of it as I would get the bag regardless and I will also happen to give something to charity. Think about if many things we would buy anyway also donated something to charity...
