I love the San Francisco shelf.

On the flip side, where does the furniture get sold? I'm good at finding medium/high-end stuff on craigslist, but I suspect there are people like you who sell their quality modern furniture through other venues. Where do I find it? Anyone have favorite modern furniture consignment stores in the San Francisco area? The few I know of, like Monument, are wonderful but more vintage-focused. Or is it all auctioned rather than sold in a store?

I'm a pro at shoving things into my bedroom and closing the door just as guests arrive.

Then one day, a visitor opened my bedroom door! And said something about how messy it was! That was really her own damn problem, not mine (she does that type of thing all the time) but wow.

Oh the other hand... I have this phobia about people lurking behind shower curtains. Sometimes I can't help but glance behind the curtain. I know I shouldn't pry but what if OMG PSYCHO?. So, at a formal dinner I discovered the hostess had stashed all her piles of paperwork in the shower! I thought it was charmingly human, since I'd have done the same thing, but I'm glad she never knew I saw it.

I really like Shaker Workshops, but if anyone buys their kits thinking it's "the same as flat-packed Ikea assembly" as you say, they're in for a big surprise. These are serious DIY projects.

I live across the street from Universal, and I love everything about their decor, so seeing it in a house was even better. I like it so much that I don't mind seeing it featured here twice. ;-)

Is this related to Levi's underground marketing campaign involving corduroy-covered objects?

CB2 used to have a very nice tripod lamp, similar to the Santa & Cole one but of course much less expensive. But I had the same experience as Deborah - it would never have worked in my small living room.

I have the Slim coffee table. I like it, but even in my tiny living room it feels disproportionately small. CB2 used to have an "Urban coffee table" that was a similar look but better proportions (though it was grey powdercoat instead of raw steel) but it looks like they've discontinued it:

Some forensic Googling found me the name of the photographer (Andy Day) and a site to order his prints.

Too bad the copyright watermark was cropped off the photo at some point in its blogosphere life.

One of my friends replaced the dingy, stained drop ceiling in his dorm room with a proper drywall ceiling, to give himself more head room. Recessed lights and everything. But that pushed the building manager just a bit too far and he had to remove it.

On the other hand, we did install a manhole cover in the floor of a lounge without problems. And a friend in another dorm built a loft structure that created an entire second floor in his space. (Bed-sized lofts were normal, but that one was amazing. Too claustrophobic for me, though.)

My family always put electric candles in our windows for Christmas. As a kid, I loved that time of year because I could read by their light in bed. (I used to read compulsively, and my parents had a no-books-in-bed rule because they knew it was contributing to my insomnia.)

I really want to know what bicycle is used in all the photos of this rug. I'm in love with it. (The bike, that is, not the rug.) Anyone know?

Is there a good way to buy less than a full roll? The samples I've been sent are usually about 12"x18", not large enough to look as dramatic as these examples. And an entire roll (especially the double-size ones) is pretty expensive.

Ooooh. New carpet for my bedroom. Or hardwood, even better. I could afford carpet but it's a rental and I might be moving this summer anyway. It just doesn't make sense.

I've often heard the rumor that the police officer in that painting is Officer Obie of Alice's Restaurant fame. But wikipedia tells me that it's a different, less famous Rockwell painting.

I can't help identify it but it did remind me just a little bit of this Ferm Living paper.
