@Shevonne -- I'm curious what the last straw was for you.

I bought a place 3 years ago and my next door neighbors are AWFUL. They are very litigous (suing the HOA for trivial reasons), call the cops on others almost daily (hasn't happened to me yet b/c I'm quiet and live alone), other neighbors have filed restraining order for harrassment, etc. They are THE WORST.

But the apt. is in a good neighborhood and has the potential to be a great investment. At what point did you decide to cut your losess?

Considering Your Neighbors When You Choose a New Home

I renovated my kitchen in 2010 and chose subway tile with wood countertops. Even though I love my kitchen I've always wondered if subway tile and wood really "go together"...glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the combination. Can't wait to see the big reveal. Move that bus!

I'd also add: once you make new friends and you feel comfortable in a city...try to remember what it's like to be a newbie and help others out. If you have a co-worker, neighbor, friend-of-a-friend, etc. that's new to the city...call them and ask them to do something. Pay it forward.

I would put the two matching chairs, side by side facing the sofa. Then I would put a table or something in between the windows and hang some nice art or a mirror above the table and fill the table with books, personal photos, etc.

The living area, dining area and kitchen don't look cohesive to me at all. Looks like three different designers furnished each section.

Looks like you don't have room for a pot on the stoop, so a hanging flower basket on the left hand side. If you paint the door red, maybe a matching red mailbox??

I've been struggling with the same question. I already put a big pot on my stoop with flowers and a flower box along the window. Took a total of two hours, was inexpensive and it already makes me happier to come home. I agree, a red or yellow door would look nice. Also, change the lighting fixture. That can be done inexpensively as well. Good luck!

If you don't have a utility sink in your house, set-up a station outside (with hose, bucket, etc) for clean-up in advance of painting. This is especially helpful when you are painting with more than one color.

Disagree with the fireplace screen idea...which I think would be really silly looking in an obviously non-working fireplace. I think I'd do a bookshelf.

I live in a neighborhood in San Diego where all of the street names are named after famous authors. About 40 streets total. I have an on-going project to collect a book by each author. I don't buy online. I just keep a list with me and if I come across a table of old classics I'll try to find something to check off my list. I'm a reader, but doubt I'll ever read a lot of my purchases. So I guess I'm as disingenuous as the color-collectors.

Check the forecast...pack an umbrella if it's going to rain. I live in Southern California and I always forget that it rains other places. And I've purchased way too many crappy, overpriced, POS umbrellas in a pinch.

I'm trying not to over think this one...I think it's just possible to get sick of something when you see it/hear it all the time. Gotye "someone that I used to know". Good song. Over-played. I'll like it again in two years when I forget about it for a while.

Almost too perfect, but really beautiful. I disagree with the comments regarding hunting though. IMO, there is nothing wrong with hunting, especially if you actually put the animal to good use (food, etc.) and especially with particular species that live in areas where they are overpopulated anyway. I also think your attempt to justify decorating with the taxidermied animals is silly. It's okay that you are decorating with them; I personally have no problem with it. But by using these items in your home you are, at the very least, affecting the market/creating demand for taxidermied animals, as others are sure to emulate your style. I guess all I'm trying to say is that, just because you didn't personally hunt/kill the animals doesn't mean you can obsolve yourself of any of the responsibility.

I live next to a "Lady J"-type. it's unfortunate, but my neighbor really disrupts my life to the point where I am only home (in an apt that I own) to sleep. I spend as much time out of the house as humanly possible. She actually came over and yelled at me last week for empty-ing my dishwasher too loudly.
