Beautiful... so peaceful, stylish and playful! And your photography is amazing. Congratulations!

Such judgmental comments! Well, I'm in my thirties and I would love to have this bedroom. Maybe that shows it's decorated for a woman rather than a child? lol. I'm a feminist, love pink (and coral), and am all for children having books, spaces to create, etc. But I think people shouldn't sweat it because (a) this bedroom is probably in a home with many other spaces for Piper, her books, her crafts, or whatever, and (b) it is almost guaranteed: when Piper becomes a teenager she will decide she hates pink and all shades of it, including coral... and this family can afford to make it over any way she likes. :)

I am green with envy over the amount of space! So many rooms to play with! I don't remember seen mid-century furniture being *used* and looking so lived in/livable. I also love the antique/ethnic pieces mixed with the MCM. This home looks so true and cozy. Congrats!

Lovely. I have a crush on this space... and on Joan.

I too prefer proper spelling (especially on things that are published!) but darn people can be so mean about it! :)

Funny, I remember seeing the post about the drawers turned shelves months ago and wondering how useful those were. (I'm always dreaming of ways to suspend things from the ceiling or attach them to a wall for storage/display, lol). I like what you did here... and think I have a spot in my house where I may do just that!

add me to the list of people who don't love the deer head BUT otherwise you have a beautiful space -- i'm sighing over the very organized bookshelf and pondering how you can have a ton of books without them interfering with the flow of energy in a space. thanks for the inspiration!

Beautiful! I never thought I could like yellow, but you make it dreamy with black and white.

I love all the cozy chairs and nooks, and love the ceiling and the textures all over the house. From the description I was afraid it would be a cluttered "thrift junk" place, but the owner has done a fantastic job of choosing just the right objects and keeping the color scheme neutral so nothing really overwhelms. Great control here!

I'm with Loora above. I appreciate the minimalist elegance, and yet the space is so composed that the "Obey" art in the dining room doesn't seem ironic but rather literal.

my favorite color here: white. i love how it's used as the backdrop for the color explosion. makes it feel controlled and artful. and the pink toilet paper made me smile. the whole tour just makes you feel happy! for me, personally, there's too much *stuff* everywhere, but if i got invited for a tour and a drink i think i would really enjoy it! congratulations on your very
unique space :)

Many things to love about this place. I'm personally taken with the artwork with the 3 panels. Is it a unique piece, and if so who made it?

baba yaga: I realized later that I misread your post (and pmaher's too for that matter). "I doubt you can teach a chair anything" was a play on my misspelling, not a personal attack implying that if I can't spell I'm too dumb to teach, which is where my exhausted, sleep- deprived brain took it. Clearly I can't neither spell nor read this week... so much for effing smart, lol. Sorry.

And thank you, Kate, for the added info on how you reupholstered the chair (what I came back here for). I would very much love a tutorial.

pmaher and baba yaga - and I'm writing a doctoral dissertation at Harvard. Not sarcasm, a fact. Perhaps I couldn't teach a chair anything but I teach Harvard undergrads. Thanks. You'd be amazed how many people I don't call on their typos or other stupid comments on blogs for that matter.

I too am so impressed by your skills. Last night, armed with new fabric and a staple gun, I tried to reupholster a mid-century dining chair (only the seat and back strip to cover) and was totally defeated - I just don't know how to get the fabric taught and neat over the curves of the wood. *sigh* Tutorial?
