@absinthedreams, unfortunately I've seen plenty of big, white-on-the-inside organic strawberries too, especially in the off season. I think this is a case where local/seasonal versus large-scale agriculture grown for shipping makes a much bigger difference than conventional versus organic.

In general, I try to buy all my produce from the farmers' market when possible, but for most things, I'm okay with the grocery store versions in a pinch -- however, strawberries and tomatoes are two things I'm just not willing to compromise on! They are so much better fresh and when they are not bred for surviving a cross-country trip. I think people as a whole are becoming so used to the readily-available berries that they have forgotten what real strawberries taste like!

For me it's vodka soda with a splash of grenadine. I drank a lot of Shirley Temples as a kid so grenadine holds a bit of nostalgia value, plus the sugar helps hide the taste of crappy vodka.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of ombre, but that last one from BB&B is beautiful!

Also a question for those going the DIY route - do you use any sort of special fabric since the curtain might get wet (and will definitely get humid)? Or is it not critical if you use one of those vinyl liner curtains as well?

Oh my god, I think I went to summer camp with her -- must have been at least 15 years ago! Whitney, if you happen to read this, did you go to Camp Sloane in CT??

Either way, these paper cut outs are beautiful - I could imagine them making a really nice room divider too, especially with a lot of light shining through!

Looove the new color! And changing the floor was huge, the old floor looks so... kitchen-y. Not great for either a dining room or an office.

The cabinet above the toilet seems really out of place, but that TUB! I would die for that tub!!

I just like that you have Ravelry and XKCD on your "to do" list!

Unfortunately, I don't think this would work so well for me because I'm pretty good at getting computer tasks done when they need to get done. The hard part is making myself turn off the computer and get off my butt to clean/organize/run errands!

For kids who haven't quite mastered chopsticks, there's a better way!

Take a standard pair of takeout chopsticks, separate them, and then wrap them together with a rubber band at the larger end. Then fold the paper wrapper in half repeatedly until you can't fold it anymore, and wedge it between the chopsticks up against the rubber band. Instant chopstick tongs! No silly extra utensils!

This apartment makes me angry, because my own studio has the same square footage but yours is laid out SO MUCH BETTER. Seriously, I think this might be the best use of 300 square feet I have ever seen. Nice job!!

@Krikkit, I had a friend who did the same thing and it boggled the mind. She and her boyfriend were on the lease together, and she would go so far as to place a piece of tape with just her name on their apartment buzzer and mailbox so her parents wouldn't see his name there as well. Oddly enough, the parents knew and liked the boyfriend -- he would leave the apartment and hang out in a coffee shop until they arrived, and then "come over" from his "apartment a few blocks away." My friend's mom just wasn't okay with the idea of living together before marriage. I cannot even imagine.

As for me, I don't hide anything, but I guess my tastes don't really run towards whatever might be considered inappropriate by a different generation. Also, I get along well with my parents and I can't think of anything they would be offended by in the first place. I do try to clean up for them, though, because my mom especially can't sit down and relax in a messy room and she will start cleaning up for me! (which could be seen as a benefit, but it just makes me feel super guilty)

Ahhh, $200 feels like a lot for a lamp but that Fascination sconce is amazing! It reminds me of a giant jeweled broach, only glowing from the inside. I'm definitely making note of it.

Yeah I'm not really getting this one either... especially with of the big tangle of wires in the back. Do the wires need to be untangled to move the cart, or does its "portability" require unplugging and replugging all the components in??

On the plus side... I do like the artwork on the wall in the back!

I have one of these double-ended knives:

http://www.crateandbarrel.com/kitchen-and-food/prep-utensils/grapefruit-knife/s539716

and it is GREAT. I sometimes make citrus supremes for salads, but even with practice, it takes me a long time. With this knife, I cut a grapefruit in half and put it in a bowl, cut between the segments with the double-blade side, and then cut around the circumference with the curved side. The whole process takes maybe a minute. Plus, the curved tip is really handy for removing pesky seeds. Then I eat the segments with a regular spoon, squeeze the remaining juice into the bowl, and sluuuuurp away!

I've learned the hard way that not only should this stuff be in a carry-on, it should be in a carry-on that you KEEP WITH YOU. On a flight where I got stuck in the back row, I had to put my rolling suitcase into the overhead bin about 10 rows up from my seat, and when I finally got up there after everyone else had left the plane, my bag was gone! However, a very similar-looking bag was sitting right next to where mine had been...

Luckily, the person who accidentally took my bag realized their mistake, and also had no interest in stealing any of my stuff. :p The airline took care of it and I had my bag by the next day, but it taught me a really valuable lesson -- if you can't see your stuff, don't assume that it's in the same place you left it!

I really love these, especially the wreath! But I have a black thumb and very little direct sunlight in my apartment (one north-facing window, plus 3 other windows that face airshafts). Despite my history of plant death, I'd love to give it one more try. Will succulents - or anything, really - survive on indirect sunlight?
