WHERE did you get the winged horse image in the bedroom? I love it!

in continuation of #3: ... rotate the grouping to be diagonal or at a slight angle in the room, rather than parallel with the walls (not sure if this part of my comment made it into my previous one).

Living Room Layout Challenge:
What Would You Do?

I've dealt with weird layouts before and discovered a few tricks, in addition to those already posted:

1) whether or not you flip the couch to face the window, definitely move it away from the wall- part of the odd look is that you have practically everything backed up against the little wall space that exists in the room. After you move the couch from the window, you could even place a sofa table behind it without the room feeling overly cluttered.

2) Do have the chairs, coffee table, etc. parallel with the couch so that there is a shared "focus" or gathering space. Right now the focus seems to be around the doors of the room, and there is a sense that all of the room's energy is flowing out.

3) This is the most interesting discovery, in my opinion: once you've grouped the sofa/chairs/table and moved the grouping away from the walls, try rotating the grouping

Lovely apartment, and I can't wait to see your next space.

As a fellow Bengal owner, I would really like to know what it's like to live with one in NYC and/or in a tiny apartment.

I second the squeaky mouse. My cat (a Bengal) goes through them pretty regularly, so we always have one or two around the house. She usually brings them to me when I'm lying in bed at night so i often end up surrounded by a cat and several squeaky mice!

There is a higher likelihood of getting a "trainable" cat with Asian breeds, such as Bengals, Siamese, Abyssinians, etc. They are known for their intelligence and outgoing personalities. The leash and harness wouldn't be an option if my Bengal cat wasn't so curious and eager for adventure. I live in the city with an incredibly high-energy breed of cat so we've learned to compromise with each other.

We treat our walks as conversations: sometimes she chooses the direction, and other times I choose it by using gentle and insistent (and probably annoying) pressure on the leash. I also use a rewarding tone of voice to signal my approval of her positive behavior.

Just treating the whole interaction as a conversation and practicing this regularly has turned her into a really reliable walking partner.

Keep in mind that the only way a cat can successfully walk outdoors on a leash is if the owner has spent a lot of time, energy and attention with the cat. I'd say that, if you see a cat happily walking on a leash, you can be pretty sure that he has an excellent bond with his owner, and that he is pretty sound of mind. That sounds like a pretty good life, to me.

I'm in Seattle and am surprised this industrial chair didn't make the cut; I'd get it if I wasn't trying to declutter my place but I guess I'll pass it along!

I can't believe how elegant and transferable the concept of wabi sabi is. I first learned about wabi sabi when I bought a jacket from a designer in Seattle who loved the concept and wanted to transfer the idea to fashion. The edges on her clothes are often unfinished and each piece is one-of-a-kind, flowing, and well-structured but not tailored or "stiff".

I love how it applies to style, regardless of the style medium!

In effort to find ikat fabric for a similar chair from Urban Outfitters, I ended up using a shower curtain. Try looking at fabric items that are meant for a different use!

I blogged about it here: http://www.jillyotz.com/2010/05/elusive-ikat-fabric.html

Where Can I Find These Fabrics?
Good Questions

I recently bought a 10x13' oriental rug off of Craigslist for $40. When I got home, I realized that the rug was waaaaaaay larger than I had thought (I always remember to measure the space AFTER these kinds of purchases), and I was going to re-Craigslist it. However, my cat was crazy for the carpet! She rolled all over it, purred, napped, rolled some more. I was actually vetoed by my boyfriend from getting rid of the rug because the cat loved it so much.

Now our little 9 lb feline sleeps on a TEN FOOT BY THIRTEEN FOOT rug! (How's that for a cat bed?)

I had similar difficulty when trying to find blue patterned upholstery fabric and material for matching pillows on a budget. I ended up finding a fabric that I liked (and could afford) in the form of a shower curtain. It's kind of like the pillows in this blog post:
