Stores like Big Lots and Tuesday Morning also get many of the overstocked or discontinued items from stores such as Target or the big box home centers. Not sure if these are national or regional stores, but I got a nice Target fabric shower curtain for $3 recently. Also know that if a price point at Target ends in "8", it is not likely at it's lowest markdown.

Shopping Secrets: 7 Ways to Get the

My husband was in the hospital for a week unexpectedly, and the time was made easier by things like scented candles (subtle) to mask the institutional smell, cozy socks since the rooms are so cold, a blanket from home for the bed, and great moisturizers for your face and body.

While I was during child delivery, I especially enjoyed having fresh fruit, bottled water and my mp3 player to help cancel out noises for that finite amount of time I was able to rest and sleep.

Metal finishes....luxe brushed brass and decayed rust finishes. Two extremes! I think Nickel will be considered "so 2000" in the next couple of years.

For decor, lots of retro school house inspiration, and a beachy look that is super modern and edgy, not tacky (aka seashell decor).

Bed Bath & Beyond has a faux fur electric throw, which isn't hideous:

I'd just stow it away in a closet when not in use.

Love the hot pink rail of peg hooks. What a great way to combine function and color!

Hmm, red mulch doesn't bother me at all. It can be quite pretty with the right house, in my opinion. But I'm far from being a master gardener.

Ditto other commenters. I'd do a paler or brighter house paint, one that contrasts with the brick. I think if the brick stands out more, it would provide balance and really showcase all the features. I personally like the white trim, and the window box. Add some bright POP flowers, like hot pink, or red, and it will also help create a new focal point.

The sink is an awfully expensive and hard to replace area of the kitchen or bath with a rather long lifespan....I'd rather keep my statement pieces in the accents. Love the colors though - but not on a sink.

I think a simple floor like this:

It would brighten up the room and be an investment that can stay if you renovate the room down the road.

For the grab bar by the toilet, there will be some huge holes there once you remove it, and probably anchors drilled deep into the wall. If you could find some pink tile at a salvage place or online, you could probably replace the tiles pretty easily with one of those kits you can find at the home stores.

Flooring for Pink and Green Bathroom? Good Questions

#1) People in the Express Check Out (12 items or less) who obviously have more than 20+ items. Sorry people, 30 cans of cat foods does NOT count as one item.

#2) People who race their carts toward the check out when they see you coming. Rude!

#3) Baggers/cashiers who have to analyze and opine on every item I buy. "Ooh, is this good? I haven't had it yet but it looks good". This is me being quirky, but it. drive. me. insane.

Also, my kids can be horrors in the supermarket, but I have been known to leave without buying anything because of them. Nobody wants to hear them ask for every third item on the shelf - supermarkets are a nightmarish place to shop with children.

Great roundup. I too went to the High Point Market and was amazed at all the wire-cage design going mainstream. Along with rivets, both small and huge.

My grandmother passed away this past summer, and her home is on the market now. I want with all my heart to buy it, but it's in another city from where I've made roots, and I cannot afford 2 mortgages. It breaks my heart, but without grandma, the house is not a home. I inherited her living room furniture (1950's style) and have incorporated it into my own space, which I feel is a great memorial to my past and my future.

Love these awards for introducing me to new blogs each year, but I do feel that they are more like a popularity contest of rabid readers versus a judgement of top-notch blogging, like in prior years.

I'd go solid, in either beige or chocolate brown, and use interesting patterns for sheets and pillows. That rug is awesome - I'd want it to be the focal point.

Bed Bath and Beyond has lots of color choices and great prices:

When given the "right" to say no, kids usually do say no! I am, however, not above simple bribery in the form of an allowance that gets cut by lack of help with cleanup.

It seems like eclectic style in itself is a trend these days, but that has always been my thing, from home decor to fashion. I would never buy a trend for trend's sake, but would also never deny myself a trend for trend's sake either. And yes, I have a cardboard stag head AND a yellow and gray bedroom. Oh the horror!

How Do You Deal with Design Trends?

I have had good success in price, quality and service through Overstock.com and they have a ton of jute rugs and solids.

I would do sheer curtains for the windows because they look so cool and the light is great. I think some IKEA curtains with a pattern could spice up the room a bit.

Good luck...I love your space!

I like the Coqo, I think it would add a bold pop to your room but look good with the furniture.

2nd choice is the Bogart, probably in the teal. But check out www.shadesoflight.com, whose prices are much better on similar patterns!

Which Rug Would You Choose for This Space?

My kids want bean bags for Christmas to lounge in their rooms and watch movies, but they are 7 and 3 years old. I cannot imagine a day when I'd want one for our living area, no matter how classed up they look.

Nor could I imagine spending $800+ on one!
