Is the orzo precooked or does it cook with the sauce in the oven?

Gosh, I finally gave in to the modern brass trend and I'm surprised how much I like it!

Yup. I love honest materials and visible construction. And modularity, too. But I think this is kind of clumsy and contrived.

I've been wanting to install a wood ceiling but it's a huge commitment. Our place is pretty open so there's no right way to do it without doing ALL of it.
Does anyone have experience using flooring on the ceiling?

I love Chinese lanterns. They retain their looks when they dry out and will last in that state for a couple of years.

This is definitely on my list of someday projects. Since my place is very open, there's a lot of ceiling and I'd have to do all of it. But it would give me the texture and warmth that I need.
Has anyone had experience with Armstrong ceilings? The wood is fake but my ceilings are high enough that I think it would pass.

Krylon makes a terrific mirror paint that is designed to be sprayed on the inside of clear glass--and it looks amazing. You'd never guess that it's spray paint! So you could take any inexpensive clear glass lamp and make it look just like this.

Any of these could look great--it's a matter of personal preference. But I'd go in another direction, accenting the green with sophisticated grays and white. The vanity could be a deep gray with the inset panels on the doors painted pale green or soft white. Paint the walls white and/or a paler gray. A simple white fabric shower curtain and towels--maybe a black or charcoal rug. You could soften the window with simple white linen--or by simply removing the shutters and applying frosted film to the glass. Bright nickel accessories could complete the look. I think it would be a handsome bath!

Wow--I guess I do this, I just never thought about it in these terms. My weakness--OK, one of my weaknesses--is art and handcrafted accessories--vessels and such. I can only display so many things in my 1BR condo so I spread the love. (Well, "spread" may be overstating it. My sister once told me, only half-jokingly, "Well, at least when you die, the family won't be fighting over your art.")
It pleases my aesthetically correct friends and when something comes back, I fall in love all over again.

I kind of like lamp cords. They seem integral to the function.

Yep--artwork and accessories. You're off to a terrific start. I moved into a new loft about two years ago and I've had the same challenge--I bought furniture that works fine but it just takes time to discover and collect the quirky and personal items that make it home. But it happens!

1. No bamboo. I have bamboo floors in my condo and they looked great. But a single brief visit from one excited golden retriever left them very visibly scratched with no recourse but total refinishing.
2. No dark-stained woods. They're popular now but they really show scratches.
Great house--congrats!

Sure you can have too much space. I think there are plenty of people who are drawn to a home because of generous square footage but are puzzled what to do with it when they move in. Especially giant bedrooms.
I downsized to a 1BR condo two years ago and haven't looked back. It has taught me to be more efficient, organized, and selective. But my BF's lease is up in a few months and we're trying to decide if it's good for two.

I'm on the hunt for large tile that has the look of aggregate or concrete. This example is probably beyond my budget but I like it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Go for it!
Yes, Hickory Chair is a very high quality manufacturer who makes some exquisite furniture (that I can't afford). But these don''t seem to be of a style that is likely to become iconic. The right paint and fabric would look terrific.
Great find!

Boy, that's not my experience. I've purchased dozens of shades from S N over the years and I was unfailingly impressed by the value, quick turnaround, and service. Only once did I have a shade arrive with the wrong dimensions and they remedied it immediately. So my experience has been great and I recommend them frequently.

Reupholstery is expensive. If your tastes are veering contemporary, maybe these aren't your forever chairs. Are the frames good quality with a solid, resilient suspension system? Don't consider reupholstering them if the answer is no.
If you do reupholster, those chairs would be stunning in mohair--pricey, I know, so maybe another velvet with that feel. I actually think they'd look better a few years down the road when the pile has crushed into an inviting patina.
But if they aren't great quality chairs, DIY or don't bother.

Fine with layered rugs but I never like rugs over wall-to-wall.

I've got no problem with DIY furniture--or plywood furniture for that matter. But this is poorly scaled and the form is circa 1989.
