If you're still having problems after treatment, have the pest control guy put powdered insecticide in outlets, cable and phone jacks, etc. if he hasn't already. I manage a complex and we couldn't get a handle on them until we figured out they were using the electrical wiring as a highway.

I have the same set-up in a building I manage, we use a piece of clear plexiglass, but you could use a colored piece or put something decorative behind it to dress it up.

I do internet marketing for apartment complexes, this is every source I can think of:

rent.com; apartmentfinder.com; apartments.com; move.com; forrent.com;
mynewplace.com; apartmentguide.com; zillow.com; padzing.com, trulia.com. The last 3 of these are fed by Craigslist and/or other internet sources.

Also, do facebook searches for "apartment minneapolis" or your ideal neighborhood, lots of properties have FB pages, some also have blogs and twitter accts, google your ideal neighborhood, there might be a neighborhood association that can refer you to the rentals in the area.

Also, (this is icky to think about) but check bedbugregistry.com, if your chosen apartment is on there, at least verify with management that they've been eradicated, can't be to careful.

I saw these on amazon a week go and immediately regretted starting a collection of penguin classics. I'm abandoning them for these, pronto.

ooh, been doing that for years. works pretty well if you bend it back a little, makes for easier hanging. For light stuff, you can hot glue them on too.

All that work and you rent? As a landlord I'd be super-appreciative for all of your hard work and the money you've invessted, but as a renter, I'm hoping you're planning on being there a while to make your investments worth it. Gorgeous space though.

When we were buying paint for our living room, we settled on Behr-Gobi Desert, 710C-3. The mixer said it was their most popular color. (With good reason, we've used it in multiple homes along the way.)

Does anyone have a good way to hang a tapestry so that it doesn't pull and damage it? I have a gorgeous one my sister brought me from Spain that is very heavy, and I can't figure out how to hang it so as to not do damage.

There are many many different kinds of secondary window locks that are invisible to someone wishing to break in and do you harm. Some have keys and work like a deadbolt, some are just an additional pin that sinks down into the window frame. These are readily available at any home improvement store. The broomstick/dowel works excellently for a sliding glass door that you don't use often.

Ask your landlord to do these modifications, or ask before you do them yourself, but since you're on the 1st floor, they should be OK with it.

My mother remodeled her kitchen in 1996, and a kitchen-aid was her favorite part of the whole renovation, as no one had one in those days. It got used weekly. 14 years later, I'm still using it, hoping and praying that it will die so that I can get a new pretty one. alas, it's still working like new. I'll keep hoping though.
