Strongly disagree with the statement "Repeating the same pattern on multiple surfaces... gives the illusion of more space." I find the result completely claustrophobic.

Amen J.Stella. I agree that granite isn't the defining material people on tv seem to think it is, but the edge profile is the number one thing making many granite counters look dated. That's no reason to throw out an entire class of stone that comes in a zillion looks and varieties.

I bought a beautiful antique linen sheet with white art deco embroidery from a French eBay seller vintageco last year for $50. Completely in love with how it feels and looks, and how wonderfully long it is--enough to fold over the blanket, with plenty to spare at the foot. So I looked up the seller to see if I could get another that I could make into a fitted sheet, and they're no longer shipping to the US because of last fall's changes to regulations! I've run afoul of this problem a few times with eBay sellers and others--I wish they'd get things sorted out...
So ebay vintage goods are a good bet, but watch out for changing policies.

And if you live in Houston, you can see part of the Eckel collection donated to the Museum of Fine Arts from August 20:

This is probably cheaper than Spoonflower, but if you can afford it, you can save your back with them. It's a genius website that lets you upload images and they print fabric to your order. The quality is very high.

I third the magic eraser. If that doesn't work, try a real eraser next (a white one--an orange pencil eraser can leave a mark worse than what you had.) If that doesn't work, try a steam cleaner (cautiously--I don't think the heat would be enough to affect the plastic, but try a little bit at the back first to be sure.) Distilled water is a much more effective cleaner than regular water. You could try rubbing the marks with distilled water on a q-tip. Also rubbing with spit on a qtip--digestive enzymes can be the very best thing to break down organic dirt.
I wouldn't try anything with a solvent. You can start out with a solvent on plastic thinking everything is fine, and then suddenly after ten minutes work, the plastic goes all funny, sometimes nowhere near where you've been working--it can travel down the polymer chains, I think.
If it's truly a stain, i.e. penetrated through the plastic, just give up, you're never going to pull it out. If it's on the surface and just stubborn, keep trying things. Good luck!

This is pretty much my ideal bathroom too. A copper tub doesn't have to be $43000 dollars, though. You can get one here

for a mere 3300. Still insane for a tub, but somehow, someday, is neverneverland, I think it could be worth it...

While I quite like some of them, there's something fundamentally wrong about tailoring a painting to go in a space. I usually really like his designs until we get to the painting, and once that's added, it so perfectly matches the room that, despite the vivid colors, the total effect is a sort of overdesigned hotel room blandness.
Of course, no danger of that when you're buying a print of his for a space you've designed. But with so much amazing and affordable art on etsy, do you really want the image in your living room to have a print of something done by the hot HGTV guy?

King Spa in Dallas, which is Korean--scrupulously clean, entry is cheap as dirt, and good for 24 hours, hot rooms, cold rooms, baths, steam rooms, a Korean food court, a movie theater, fast-food style play area for the kids, even karaoke, if you've ever wanted to do karaoke while wearing pink pajamas and your hair in a towel! Plus the decor is unbeatable...

I had very handsome unscreened windows when I lived in England, and I loved the unobstructed view, so romantic. I did not, however, love the five or six months of bug bites. When another girl in the building complained about ladybugs in her room, I thought she was being a bit whiney. I mean, what's so terrible about a few adorable ladybugs? Then she showed me...and I had to agree. Five or six hundred ladybugs is really too many for one bedroom.

Tuberose--elegant, inexpensive ($10 from Whole Foods, usually), and the scent is intoxicating. Not usually available this time of year, though. In spring I often get ranunculus. Graphic but casual.

I love it. And less than 1000 sq ft is less than 1000 sq ft is less than 1000 sq ft. It qualifies, it's beautiful and unusual, and not everyone in America lives in a city.
(I especially adore the living room, by the way. Can I move in?)
