Hi Nicole! I find myself in almost the exact same situation. Mom passed away 2 years ago when I was 27 and she was 57. Her cooking and her recipes are so iconic to me. My siblings and I are working on getting all her recipes scanned for posterity. But I wanted to do something...warmer. I came across this here on The Kitchn: http://www.thekitchn.com/meaningful-kitchen-art-frame-your-old-family-recipe-cards-kitchen-inspiration-174980

I'll be picking 1 or 2 of her hand-written recipe cards to frame. I've also requested a favourite recipe from my grandma. I'm planning to add more eventually, from the women in my life (including my partner's mother and grandmother as well). This project feels really comforting to me, a sort of tribute.

Best wishes for the holidays! :)

Personally, I had to come to grips with the fact that I'm a snacker. I like to graze! It's a bit of an oral fixation, I guess. At first I tried just getting rid of all snacks. Now I snack smart. When I get home with all my groceries, I start to chop and clean a bunch of fruits and veg, portion of trailmix, etc.

I also crave cold treats LIKE CRAZY. Homemade low-sugar juice popsicles are my best friend. And while I know there's still sugar and calories in there, it's better than a pint of ice cream, you know?

I was once very successful at trimming down by starting the VEGETABLE CHALLENGE! Basically, I forced myself to make sure I ate the 5-8 servings of fruits and veg as recommended. Very filling and the sugar cravings went away after a few days.

I make a miso compound butter that is amazing on everything. With some miso, lemon juice and zest, and some softened butter, this is how I like to finish a piece of pan-seared salmon. It's a crowd pleaser. Super yummy on veg too, like steamed broccoli.
