Fill your suitcase with gigantes! And then send me some, have only found them at great expense on Amazon. Sigh.

Notes from a Little Greek Island

I splurged on F&B in several rooms while in the the midst of a very expensive reno. A dream to paint with. I used vert de terre in my dining room. As the light changed, so did the color - from gray to green to a blue-gray - gorgeous! I think the price has gone up considerably since I first used it seven years ago and even then it was a stretch. Worth it? Only if it's really not a financial stretch.

I have a very large Revereware stock pot from my mother - its close to 50 years old and still fantastic. It's probably imbued with memories of all the wonderful things that came out of it when I was growing up. Or maybe it's me. On the flip-side, my mom gave me a huge Le Creuset dutch oven as a wedding present. It's also fantastic and hopefully my daughter will use it with the same memories as I do with the Revereware.

I love photos of the whole family - not by a photographer, but the kind that show what our friends and their families have been up to. Travels, events, accomplishments. We've had friends (no children) send a card one year with pictures of them as they bicylced across country and thought it was awesome I also love seeing children as they grow up. Many families don't post pictures of their children on FB so this is the one time to see them. My only beef is the single card rather than a folded card - hard to prop up!

I guess I'm the only one who has never seen these before! I think it's a brilliant idea. If I ever figure out how to use my sewing machine, this the first thing I'll make.

White pumpkins remind me of white asparagus - I find both anemic and unappealing. Good call amygoog, you hit the nail on the head.

Best post ever, because who doesn't love validation?? It's a shame we can't invite each other just for the joy of actually getting a timely response. As irritating as it is to have your own invites go unacknowledged, it's painful to have that when it's your child's party. It was so bad when my daughter had her first party (at 4) that we now have a standing policy that she attends every party she's invited to, after a prompt response of course!

Every Christmas when I was single, I would buy one fantastic ornament from Neiman Marcus. I have seven of them and I adore them. They still evoke a wonderful sense of nostalgia when I unpack them each December.

Not for me, but honestly, how cool would it be if more people did cool things with their garage doors?? Imagine driving through a neighborhood where there were no white garage doors!

I once did several rooms in Farrow & Ball paint - AMAZING. A dream to paint with. I still think about how the colors looked and how they seemed to change as the light changed or viewed from different angles. Wonderful paint and worth every penny. I would use it again if I could afford it. As a bonus, it's low VOC and totally odorless.

Window treatments - I spent years in rentals with basic, ugly blinds. I still remember the satisfaction of buying and installing real wooden blinds in the first house my husband and I owned. Also a grown-up thing: neosporin!

My husband is a fisherman. Not professionally, but obsessively. He went to great pains since he was in college 40 years ago to make sure he had a career that would take him places he could fish (he succeeded). Every home we have had always has a room where he can display all things fish, fishing and even vaguely fishing-related. Our vacations are often planned around it and much of our disposable income is earmarked for it. Now some clever person please write an article explaining how this is not the result of low self-esteem yet my passion for improving, both practically and esthetically, my home is.

88 POUNDS? Unless you have lots of kids that will be able to use kid-sized furniture as the older ones grow out of it, it's a total waste of money and energy.

At the end of the day, we all choose where we live. Whether it's the actual city or a career that dictates where we live. When I was single, shelling out half my income for an apartment in DC was worth every penny. Now, not so much. My mortgage now is a little more than my rent 15 years ago in Georgetown and I live fivee miles from Charleston,SC. Plus we can ride our bikes to the beach, have some of the best restaurants in the country and no more ultra-irritating presidential motorcades jamming up my commute. Sometimes you think you're a city-person for life, and then suddenly, BOOM, you crave a back yard.

Well done! I think it's one of the best rentals I've seen on AT. Must see what you do when you own your space and have no limitations.
