I agree 100% about it robbing of creativity thorndale.

I'm not a fan of toys that have a specific way of playing with them...toys today are not as open ended as they should be and I think that takes away from imagination building skills.

Its very cute, but I would have done a simple 'shop' design if anything that could then be changed from bakery to pet shop to grocery store to art gallery... whatever came to mind!

If you like the look but need a much more wallet friendly option, check out CityFabric.

They do prints (so no laser cutting involved) of city maps with a very similar feel.

Maybe its just me, but I far prefer small pot-luck style gatherings to actual host/hostess cooked dinner parties.

In our circle, everyone brings something to contribute to the meal, and there is no obligation or expectation to bring a gift. We usually stick with some sort of very lose theme so that there is some cohesion within the meal (our most recent was simply 'fall comfort foods")

I've been on both the hosting and guest side of this and I love it. No pressure to bring a bath bomb or flowers or anything else the hostess may not need or want... just good company and good food and everyone helps clean up!

I have been in love with that table from World Market since the first day I saw it - I literally gasped in the store.

If I only I had the budget and the space for it....

I never thought I'd like that style house but looking this all I see is potential for greatness! Too bad the area we are looking to buy in "grew up" in the 80s... Not a fantastic time for home design, lol.

My suggestions:
- Loose the awning (you know, in case you hadn't seen the 30 or so posts before mine that said the same thing, lol.
- Cut down the tree in the middle of the yard. Its hiding the house. Embrace the roofline, its fun!
- Plant some large flowering bushes under the long window on the left. That empty space is distracting, but some landscaping under it will make it look intentional that the window is so high.

For color, I like the suggestions of grays, but go with a warmer gray with some brown to it. The garage I'd paint one or two shades lighter then the color you pick. Front door needs a bold, bright, fun color. Teal or peacock blue or orange would be awesome, but I'd replace the door that's there with one with fun windows and a 70s vibe.

Congrats on your new home!!

Instead of offering to pay half, I'd start with offering to extend your lease by an extra year if they make the swap. As long as you are a good renter (clean, pay on time, quiet, etc) then they'll probably jump at the chance to keep you in the unit and not worry about having to find someone else in a year

Research the appliances you'd like, and try to find some good deals. Tell your landlord that if they give you a reasonable budget for appliances, you'll work within it to find the best bargain and offer to take care of actually ordering it and being there for delivery. Your landlord may be more willing to give you a budget for appliances if they don't have to do any work for it other then pay for it.

By the way, the towel trick works great with just about any animal. If they are fast, get ready to have a second thing (box, laundry basket, etc) to throw over the towel before they can run out, but It will definitely slow them down!

I've used it to catch injured baby bunnies (the cat found it first) as well as baby possums that were scattered after our dogs chased the mother out of the yard. Its a lot easier then trying to just grab at them with your hands, which is scarier and more likely to injure them or cause them to freak out and bite you.

How To Get a Bird Out of the House

When I was a teenager we had a squirrel that had made its way into our chimney and kept popping out in the fireplace. Luckily we had glass doors, but obviously we needed to get him out, so I drew inspiration from old Looney Toons.

I gathered up an oven mitt, a cracker with some peanut butter, some string and a small plastic toy dog carrier that belonged to my little sister. I rigged it up so that the carrier was sitting up (with the opening facing up to the chimney) and tied the string so I could pull the door shut. I put the cracker in the bottom of the carrier, ran the string out between the glass doors, closed the doors, put on the oven mitt and waited patiently. About 10 minutes later our little friend came down to get the cracker and climbed in. I pulled the string to close the door as best I could, pulled open the glass doors and and put my hand (in the oven mitt, so I didn't get bit) over the door so he couldn't get out. Carried him outside and let him go.

My whole family watched, and were laughing hysterically - my mom said she wished she video tapped it, but she didn't think in a million years it would work. I've always wished she had, lol.

I agree with the comments against #1. If there is EVER a time to not multi-task, its while driving. Your commute serves one purpose - to get you from point A to point B - and it your duty as a driver to do that safely for both yourself AND the others on the road.

Other then a quick "Leaving work, need me to pick up anything on the way home?" phone call my boyfriend, I HATE talking on the phone after work. I need that 30 minutes to sing along with the radio and just drive away physically and mentally, from work. Unless I'm expecting something important, my work phone stays in my bag, on vibrate, once I'm home.

General rule, if you only have to open/pour... $1 per drink. Doesn't matter if I'm drinking a $2 can of PRB or a $8 local microbrew, if the only work was to open a can or pull a lever on a tap, $1 for the 1 minute or so of your time. I have a lot of friends who are bartenders and consider this fair.

Start mixing things and getting a little more complicated... that tip goes up.

RE: Greenwoodgal

Children do not need to be in their own bedroom, as others have pointed out, to become happy well adjusted adults.

I'm sure they parents will re-evaluate their situation when the girls are older (4 teenage girls in one room could be a bit chaotic) but for now they have a wonderful shared space they will fill with memories. Maybe the parents CHOSE to live in a smaller home so they could be in a neighborhood with better schools and community programs. Maybe the parents live in a smaller home to decrease their eco-footprint or maybe they just aren't materialistic enough to want to build a 5 bedroom mcmansion or maybe they bought it before they have kids and don't want to move yet. I'd personally rather live in a small bungalow in a great neighborhood then a large cookie-cutter home, but that doesn't mean I don't hope to have a large family (through both adoption and the old fashioned way) someday and when I do, we will work with what we have, and what/where we love, and raised to know that spending time with family is far more valuable then everyone having their own room full of crap to hide out in.

Learn what works for you, and do it, instead of trolling AT and judging others for how they live their lives in a way that works for them.

I can't help but laugh a person who uses 'fishgrease' as a user ID is afraid of germs.

Germs are GOOD for kids, and if they are using the same glass all day, what are they going to catch from themselves? If you are worried about the kids touching the glass with dirty hands, they would be doing that on a clean glass as well.

I'm simply blown away by the idea of having so many bedrooms that you could dedicate a whole one just to laundry.... Such a cute bedroom, seems like such a waste of space

PS - I hope I never have enough laundry to dedicate an entire bedroom room to it
