I've never been introduced to Professor Layton, but I definitely want to give it a whirl now. And anything British makes me swoon. One quibble, though. It's an orange teapot, not a tea kettle, right?

We have deep, deep charcoal walls (I remember the color was "man cave," can't remember who made it) in our bedroom, and I love them. The white molding looks crisp, and the art pops right off the walls. Our bedding looks brighter too.

How I miss living in Notting Hill! The degree of restraint here is amazing because I could never walk down Portobello Road without coming away with a teapot, cordial glasses, random pieces of porcelain and a bowler hat or something. And is that a dishwasher?! Jealous! Really gorgeous place.

I agree that the color of the wood in the "before" shot is great, but this is a nice reinterpretation of a beautiful chair. And that upholstery needed to go!

This place is positively palatial compared to the last two flats I had in London! And I actually do like the lighter neutrals that are used here. In a city that can often be grey and rainy, with flats that are usually teeny, these colors open up the space and make it brighter. Lurve the kitchen cabinets, by the way.

Incidentally, what is it about dressing rooms that elicits such negative responses and judgments about how many shoes a person should have and how he or she should use space? Is it indulgent to have a wine cellar or a game room too?

I am drooling over number three, which is only missing a Downton Abbey-style ladies' maid with a delightful Yorkshire accent to help with the dressing. Gorgeous.

Thanks AT for posting about a fabulous designer! I love hearing about creative minds like this. And I love that table!

Not only do I love the sleek look of lacquer, but photo number two gives me an idea what to pair with my Missoni bedspread, as I have the same one!

As a former curator, I agree that the word "curate" is inappropriately used in this context. Curating is not merely editing or putting a room together well. There is also a significant research element involved as well as years and years of education and preparation for the job.

I also agree that shots showing the layout of the flat would be lovely, but London is full of tight spaces that are difficult to photograph. My first flat there could never be photographed properly because it was practically microscopic.

South Philly represent! So glad to see one of those beautiful old apartment buildings on AT. The Ben Franklin Boom Box just made my morning. Thank you! I love the way proportions are played with here. I have a huge wall in my living room and have been waiting to find big art I like to fill it, but the smaller pieces (especially over the TV) on big walls here add to the sense of openness and playfulness. Might give that a shot myself.

Wow. This is stunning and by far my favorite house tour on AT. As a graduate student working on an art history dissertation, I appreciate a house that actually deals elegantly with the problem of book storage, and I am taking notes here. My bedroom is a very similar color, and I even have nearly identical dried yellow flowers hanging on the wall from our wedding. Regarding the art over the TV, did someone blow up a detail of Munch's The Scream and frame it? Again, the art geek loves it.

I tend to think that slavishly adhering to one style makes a space look more like a theme park than a room. A mix of styles can a place look more accessible and less overwhelming. I love mid-century modern, a la Mad Men, but I want to mix more traditional pieces in with the clean lines so that my apartment doesn't scream, "Welcome to 1965!"

Love the OTO unit, but the academic in me wants to snatch those books away and shelve them upright on a flat surface. The curved shelf is awful for the bindings and will wreck your books in no time.
