Thanks Kelley!

Yes Quiltmaster, I think a wall of expedit bookcases would look phenomenal too - I've seen it done in a loungeroom with the TV unit expedit in the middle - it looked like a custom built in entertainment centre.

I did this with Billy bookcases across an entire wall of my study and love the results (and the super cheap price tag!). You can have a look here if you want!

Built-ins look SO good in almost every setting, it's hard not to want them in every room for me since they're so great for storage too!

I'd go a dark chocolate brown, or a dark charcoal grey!

We made-over our old (13 years) outdoor furniture set with great results.

Loved seeing something old and a bit washed out, become gorgeous and gleaming again!

I have this for my lunch at least 3 times a week with either bread, or left over rice. It's also a nice and quick accompaniment when bulking up a meal to accomodate an extra guest or 2! It pretty much goes with everything!

We recently brought a couple of the softest persian carpet/rugs home, and they are amazing underfoot. With their rich color, they also add the dramatic flair we really needed to complete certain sections of our new house. You can have a look here if you want - and if any of you are passing through Singapore or KL, definitely have a look at some of the carpet stores there. We carried ours home in our suitcases, and 8 months later, still adore them!!

I make what I like to think of as the easiest and most fuss free asparagus & mushroom stirfry ever - here's the link!

After some practice it now takes me 10 minutes from fridge to table which is great for those nights when I just have no energy, but want something healthy!

I also like just broiling asparagus after coating in olive oil, sea salt and pepper - they can get a bit like french fries but ten times better.

I actually have just realised the easiest way to make bolognese is to make it in an oven over a few hours - I in fact did it from mostly frozen mince to great results!

This slow cooker way sounds great too, I'll be trying it out soon!

I have trouble with time management, so when I first lived alone, I timed literally everything I did. I can tell you it takes 2.5 minutes to unload my dishwasher, another 1.5 minutes to load it, 5 minutes for my shower, 3.5 minutes to put my makeup on, and the list goes on. Seems pedantic, but it's the only way I can be on time and bring myself to do things!

Before & After: A 15 Minute Clean Sweep

Our entryway is almost too large - i don't want a mudroom style area (with shoes, coats etc) but we've already got a pretty large sideboard there, a gorgeous persian carpet, and it still looks... bare. Some of these have given me great ideas though, like maybe a couple of chairs (for ease of shoe fumbling), and a mirror to check how you look before you run out the door is always nice...

i use water from my pond to water the plants - no ill effects so far, and since I'm filling the pond from our rainwater tank, I like to think I'm doubly eco-effective! :)

Quick Tip: Water Indoor Plants With Pasta Water
1/12/11 10:52 PM

I'm an overbuyer for the following things:

-tinned tomatos
-toilet paper
-paracetemol/ibuprofen
-soap
-toothpaste
-razors
-pasta
-crackers
-biscuits
-dips when on sale
-tinned/longlife milk
-laundry detergent
-dishwashing powder & liquid
-sponges/cleaning tools

Also if something is on sale and can be stored, I'll get it. For example:

-blocks of cheese (shred/foodprocess then freeze)
-our favourite cordial (Ribena!)
-softdrinks/beer (for parties)
-my favourite wine
-tinned corn, chickpeas, tuna
-frozen vegetables
-pasta, rice

if i'm really organised, i'll bulk buy meat when it's on special then repackage and freeze in small portions.

It sounds like a lot in storage space, but if you organise it all well, it's all good, and it's WONDERFUL to never have to run out to the store to get anything.

Stocking Up So You Don't Run Out (of Toilet Paper)

Now that we have massive rainwater tanks, I've decided never to live in a home without one again. Too useful, once installed they're a great passive way to save water, and we save INCREDIBLE amounts using it!

We've also gotten rid of the dryer for good. Good curtains/blinds to insulate or keep out heat are incredible.
