i like www.supercook.com for this very reason. when i used it consistently, i saved so much money and wasted so little food. time to reestablish that habit, i think.

i've never seen her show, but from these comments sandra lee sounds pretty rough. that said, her recipe for grilled pork chops with peach salsa is over-the-top delicious and amazing and awesome. if you serve it to friends (that can handle spicy) they will like you more. (mango salsa works too.) http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sandra-lee/grilled-pork-chops-with-peach-salsa-recipe/index.html

is it an option for you to ask your neighbors to redirect the light (assuming its direction can be changed, which is maybe not the case)? they might not have any idea that it's a problem for you.

overture: i also take really long showers most of the time, and we've found that our tankless water heater is more than up to the challenge. added bonus is that it takes up MUCH less space than a traditional water heater, let alone a giant one.

i haven't tried them, but these look exactly like the W-S cookies: http://desertculinary.blogspot.com/2010/11/chocolate-peppermint-cookies.html. I'm sure you could email the blogger to see if that was his inspiration. (FYI: everything i've made from that blog has turned out awesome)

my husband's family has the most laid-back christmas traditions ever. his small family gets together on christmas eve, eats chinese take out, and exchanges gifts. period. i come from a huge extended family where christmas can be really stressful, so i look forward to the christmases we spend with his side.

i went to the ralph rapson sale and his son, tobey rapson, laughed when i mentioned the $25-$100 price range...looked like nothing was going for under $250 or $300, with most things much more than that.

i'm on board with painting, although i think i would go with a darker charcoal gray, at least for the lower cabinets. i think the white upper cabinets might look funny with the beige countertop and floor, but if you don't mind that for just a year then it's a great color choice. i would also suggest a more substantial handle on the cabinet doors, although i'm guessing that was your plan anyway.

have you decided what countertop material to go with? i think butcher block would look amazing in there. i think ikea butcher block is less than $200 for an 8-foot piece.

nice work! it's going to look awesome!

I have a batch of Black IPA homebrew that I made recently (extract kit purchased at Northern Brewer here in Minneapolis). I'm waiting for it to not taste like hoppy molasses. It's smoothing out some, but still.

my husband collects florida-themed coffee mugs. he has somewhere around 40 i think. the idea is that they are generally the tackiest mugs available. lots of alligators-as-handles and that sort of thing.

we have black paperstone too, and we have had a less positive experience than others, it seems. the water marks are out of control and lots of little tan-colored pits started showing up days after installation. when they were freshly cleaned and sealed they looked amazing, but that didn't last long. we ended up sealing them with some kind of extreme wood sealant that was recommended by the nice people at rockler, and now they're mostly ok, although we do get the weird swirly ghost marks whenever we wipe them down.
