I had three requirements for a streaming box:

A. Netflix
B. Hulu+
C. Local Media (UPNP/DLNA)

You'd think that with the variety of boxes out there, someone would be able to hit all three. I finally went with Roku assuming there would be some way eventually to work out local contact. Plex has tried, but it still requires transcoding. Why is a box with these three components so hard? It would sell so well. I had hacked my 1st version Apple TV, and it was great, except it had a hard time with higher bitrate MKV files.

For Macintosh, Handbrake does support Dolby Digital 5.1 audio output, and will transcode the video to an Apple TV compliant video format. However the conversion does take some time. What's described in the article sounds like you're simply changing the container format of the video to MP4 and transcoding the audio, "it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes on a Core 2 Duo machine." If that's the case the first generation has trouble with higher bitrate files typically encoded as MKV. Not sure if the newer generation can handle them.

A friend had a very bad problem with standing water in his dishwasher and assumed it was an issue with the drain. What it turned out to be was a kink in the water coming into the dishwasher, not the water going out of the dishwasher. The installers had not secured a rigid piece that would keep the line from kinking. Once that worked out, everything was fine. Make sure that that is not an issue instead.
