Big Cottage Reno:
Stripping Down and Painting

WOW, some people can get really ugly about things!
The owner states that they kept the lower cabinets and only replaced the upper cabinets!
I am a fan of white cabinets, as opposed to yellow oak, but prefer more color in a kitchen. I do LOVE the counter tops! Also NOT a fan of stainless appliances. But then again, this isn't my kitchen. I think it is lovely and the owners should be extremely proud. I like the staggered cabinet height, it adds interest, and dislike cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling, unless you really need the space. I am of the opinion that you should go with what YOU like and not always worry about what will sell, unless of course you are just buying and flipping the house.

My mother used to make pop-overs when I was growing up. We loved them! I have her recipe, but haven't made them in years and years. Mmmmm, thanks for reminding me - great food memories from my childhood!

I too cannot wait to follow this article over the next year! Oh how I wish I had been able to volunteer/work on a farm when I was younger - the things I could have learned!

We've done multiple sets of wine glasses for gifts, using chalk board paint on the bases. Everyone we have given them too LOVES them! Now I just need to find time to make some for myself!

I may have missed this somewhere in the article, but are the ceilings 8 ft.? I ask because I love the effect of the white b&b with the dark upper wall and ceiling and didn't know if it would make a room with an 8 ft. ceiling look closed in.
I am a fan of taxidermy in the house, having been raised in Texas and around hunting and fishing all my life, and it ticks me off when others try to make me feel guilty about displaying the trophies in my home. And I am female! No, it's not everyone's taste, but neither is the stark industrial look that I see so often. That's why there are so many decorating styles folks! So don't apologize guys! BUT, not sure if I could handle it in the bathroom myself! I agree with Lauraincancun! People have been hunting for thousands of years and as long as you use what you hunt, what's the problem? I GUARANTEE that those animals were more humanely treated than what you buy in the grocery store! OK, stepping off my soapbox!
Generally I really like the entire house, especially the barn doors. Great job guys! Give my regards to Hippie Hollow! Loved that place in the 70's!

Vintage 5 foot claw foot tub for $300. It came with the original faucets, chrome connectors and the shower head and the overhead piece that you hang the shower curtain on. Just had to clean it up and polish the inside with car wax. The faucets work beautifully after some cleaning and reworking by my hubby with the help of an awesome guy in the plumbing section at our local Lowe's. Saved us hundreds for new versions. Painted the outside turquoise and installed it in my newly remodeled bathroom. Love it!

Love the stove, the sink, the concrete counter tops and the floor. Could have done without the "favorite meal" comment, but am curious to know why someone would do that? What is the perceived benefit?

Kathryn-I highly doubt that your chickens lay 1 doz eggs each per week, since chickens lay only 1 egg per day times 7 days a week = 7 eggs max per chicken per week. But if they do you really have some super chickens.
We have 30 chickens of different breeds; 21 standard size and 9 bantam. We are lucky to get 1 to 2 doz per day total.
Our eggs are not cost-effective, but we enjoy the heck out of watching their antics. There's nothing like having 30 fluffy chickens rush towards you in anticipation when you get home. We spend about $15 a week on feed, plus they get scraps and treats, but we enjoy eating the most wonderfully fresh eggs and sharing them with our friends, family and coworkers.

Beautiful re-do! Love the cabinet doors from old windows, the dish drainer over the sink, the wood floor from Habitat (one of my favorite shopping stops). Very well done.

Ummmm radiant heat - my footsies would be so happy!
What a really great way to live. Although I think I'd have to have something more than lace around my bathroom to feel comfortable.
Over all - LUV IT! And the pups are adorable!

Beautiful space. If I was going to live in the city this is just the kind of space I'd like to have. No wonder their friends say it is cozy and warm! And the views . . . AMAZING.
But yea, do something about that elec. box. Why o why do builders do that!?!

This home is more me than my own home! There are so many elements that I love - the wood mixed with the white, the hardware on the door, the footed tub, the colors - BEAUTIFUL!
I too like the yellow tiles in the kitchen. I see the opportunity to go very French Country.

This is an amazing space. Beautifully done. What's not to like about the whole thing!?! It is def masculine, but I think a woman would feel at home as well. I LOVE the red wall, but then again, red is my FAVORITE color. Also love the wall of bookshelves, which I am doing in my home. If I had to live in the city, I'd definitely want a view like that!
Beautiful. Amazing. Stunning.

I love all of the colors that you have used in your home. Especially the red and turquoise! And the use of antlers in your display. And the mix of finishes. It all looks wonderful.
Owen's room is adorable and I like the animal heads, but then again I come from a "hunter gatherer" family and am used to the real thing, so the fakes make me chuckle.
Where did you find the red and turquoise rug in your LR - it would be perfect for my entry.
My MIL has that same stove. I'd never seen one before hers and thought it was odd, but I like it. I'll have to check with her to see if it is fully functional.
Overall a very warm and welcoming home that you should be very proud of.
