To clarify, the Lack doesn't have a drawer, it's just a shelf, but that works for me :)

We have the HOVÅS in white, and a cat. The cat, fortunately, does not shed much, but he does enjoy using the corners as a scratching post, and it has taken a great deal of self control to not strangle him.

That said, we spill things on it occasionally, and laundering the slip-covers is not very effective. They are off-white, so bleach is not an option.

Even with a little bit of visible wear and tear, it still looks very good, in my opinion. Throw some red pillows and a blanket over the arm, as we did, and it really pops!

I just moved out of a garden. I actually really liked it. The yard and surrounding buildings blocked a lot of light during the day, and the view was just a fence and some mango trees, but it also blocked the streetlight at night time. I can't fall asleep but in a pitch black room.

Anyway, it will allow more space for you and your son. As your son gets older, he'll probably want to bring friends over, and not want to hang out in mom's room/the living room. Do it.

Really hoping no one is actually throwing books into the garbage.

There are alternatives out there: Try paperbackswap.com. List all the books you're willing to part with on your "bookshelf" and other users can request them from you. For the cost of shipping, you send it to them and in turn, get a credit for a free book. You can use the credits to request books (or audio books) from any other member on the site. If you don't want to replace the books you have, you can store the credits for later use. I was able to ditch about 25 books this way, and get about 10 new (to me) books that I really wanted, and store the remaining 15 credits for future use.

I'm in the process of repurposing my Ikea Forhoja kitchen cart into a bar cart since we moved into a new apartment with more counterspace and no need for the cart. I'll post before/after pics when all is done!

Off topic and a few months late, but I used to have that EXACT SAME dresser!

Are the drawers really hard to open? Mine were, I'm assuming because of the high humidity.

^ I'm sure the salesman's commission on a 4 cent locking nut wasn't a whole lot more than it would have been on a 3 cent non-locking nut.

That said, Craftsman definitely should have put locking nuts on this thing from the factory. A rolling tool chest will see significant vibration.

Last year I moved into an older building in Ft. Lauderdale that only had window shakers to control the temperature. I was fine without a heater in the winter. Now, it doesn't get too cold in South Florida, but those terrazzo floors made it feel like the grocer's freezer section!

I beg to differ on that point. Also, I hate hangers, would much prefer hooks. Different strokes for different folks though.

Since the wheel hub (and center of mass) of the wheel will hang about 6" from the wall, you're going to have a lot more force on your joint than you would if the hub were mounted closer to the wall, meaning you'll need a stronger mounting system.

Is it possible to mount the wheel with the hub facing the wall, to reduce this moment force? At 6" away, your going to see a moment of 450-600 in-lbs, whereas if you could reduce that to, say 3", it would only be 225-300 in-lbs.
