I only have four, and only wear two by choice. (One pair are heels for interviews, another are uniform shoes for a job.) A pair of sneakers, and a pair of dressy but comfy sandals is plenty, thanks. :)

Seasonal Shift: Inspiring & Attainable Organized Coat Closets

Not actually true, at that age in particular. If the parents don't influence them, most small children play *together.*

My brother and I played house with Hotwheels and micromachines (the babies) and we send Barbie and Ken on adventures to fight monsters. I didn't learn what I was "supposed to be" until later.

There are some innate tendencies, but they don't apply to every child and they are not nearly so firm as "boys like trucks, girls like dolls."

I'm so jealous. I have a cat that eats any leafy thing I bring into the house, and I am so jealous of those lovely houseplants.

So far my lucky bamboo is surviving (minus all the leaves) and my aloe only has a few teeth marks. They are a small comfort to me.

I'd dress my kid in green. Solve the problem.

And as for dressing boys in pink and girls in blue; that was the gender pairing until quite recently, actually.

**Ladies' Home Journal article in June 1918 said, "The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." **

I know it's probably well secured, but my no-kids-of-my-own self just cringed at the pointy jutty antlers above the changing table. If those fell...

Plus, by all my mom's reports, I was a climber. *shudders*.

That said, I kinda like the look. I'm just paranoid.

I don't have any strong opinions on the installation itself, but personally I am very grateful for this post pointing out the risks of a back-venting fridge in an enclosed space! I've never looked into it, wouldn't have thought of it, and might have had a nasty surprise someday if I wanted to install one.

I like posts like this, because even when I don't "get" the renovation or installation, I often learn something about risk/reward that I can store away for later.

Why an Undercounter Fridge May Set You Back $1K — And How to Get Around It

And people wonder why trickle-down economics doesn't work.

This. Because one person with a billion dollars buys only slightly more items than a minimum wage worker. They just are more likely to buy ridiculously expensive versions...which employ no more people to make.

This makes me so sad as a human being.

I mean, it's not even like it's optimized for the chickens. If they had managed to find 100K in chicken-life-enhancing improvements, or even human-labor-saving devices...but this is a joke.

I think this may be my favorite color scheme of the entire contest thus far! The chocolate brown and white combination is striking, and you've done a great job balancing the colors so that the space feels cool and inviting, not dark!

I'm going to go with - I love the storage, not a big fan of the design, but kudos for ingenuity on this one.

And yeah, folks. You can NOT LIKE something without having to hate the folks who did it for not being in your style. If you don't like their posts...don't read them! There's a big title up top that says where this particular post came from.

I have to assume, given that fact, that folks like Bee-Charmer fall into the category of "I LIKE to read this, because it lets me be ANGRY." I don't get it, but if that's your thing...cool. Just don't waste all our time posting about it.

I have a silk kimono that I use as a house robe during the cold months. There is nothing quite like curling up on the couch, snug in body-warmed silk, reading a good book, drinking tea or cocoa, and wearing a work of art.

Autumn For Adults: Back-To-School Fun For The Rest Of Us

I am married, but not legally. The law does not recognize my affection because it applies to two men, but it is based on love, shared responsibility, and planning for a lifelong future together. We make financial decisions as a group, we support each other and are happier together than we are apart, and we have been for quite some time now.

My vote is to remove marriage from the legal lexicon - too complicated to legislate! - and instead to have a suite of specific benefits (medical, emergency, tax, child co-responsibility, etc) that you can give to whoever you feel most appropriate - be that a romantic partner, a parent, a child, or a friend.

We still assume that the most important structure in someone's life and success is a romantic partner for the purpose of producing children. Sometimes it is...sometimes it is not.

Let marriage ceremonies be a religious/personal activity, and make the actual benefits and responsibilities something more akin to a contract between adults.

Modern Matrimony: Who Benefits the Most?

Yeah, being into a lot of art hobbies takes space. Even confining myself to just a small space for each hobby...adds up to a lot of small spaces! The best I've managed is to find places to tuck most of them out of the way.

I've never been comfortable storing cleaners in the kitchen; if it's poisonous when ingested, I don't want it stored in the room with my food. Just in case, you know?

I keep my cleaners in the laundry room or bathroom, and mostly use vinegar and soap in the kitchen. If I needs something stronger, I can bring it in and take it out again, reducing the chance of a toxic spill.

Your space is gorgeous. Yes, it's more crowded than I would personally want to live in...but I've known people in much larger spaces with way more clutter, and displayed in a less visually appealing manner, too.

I'm also reassured that you mention you rarely use the stove; that was my only real *concern* looking at the space. Now? It just looks really cozy!

RE: avoiding credit card debt:

I spend on a credit card, and I pay it off every WEEK, in full. That way, if I'm busy or miss a week, I can be sure it'll still get done and no fees will accrue.

It also shows me VERY QUICKLY if I'm heading toward over-budget! If I don't have enough on hand (i.e., in checking, not drawing from savings) to pay in full right then, it's time to tighten the belt for the coming week and get back on track.

You Can Do It: 100% Realistic Budgeting Tips & Resources

@kittywrangler Yeah, the cultural implications are staggering and only sort-of anyone's fault. It's a thing we just need to move forward from. :)

I solved the laundry problem two ways:

1) I don't use bleach. I don't have it in my house. The one set of white sheets gets a pre-wash rinse with extra detergent once in a while, and that seems to work fine.

2) I buy based on how much care I want to put into the laundry. My wardrobe is almost entirely iron-free, non-white, and non-red. I DO NOT buy dry clean only items for any reason. And because most wrinkle-resistant clothes are synthetics, they also drip-dry really quickly when I want to save money/energy and skip the dryer.

Our primary hamper IS the washing machine. Because nothing has special care instructions, everything can just go in at once and no harm done. The only thing I have to show care with is my boyfriend's jeans; they wrinkle really badly if I don't take them out of the dryer at JUST the right time, and I can't iron them because they're the fire-resistant kind. (He works for an electric company).

Home Ec.: What is Your Housework Worth?

I have a 100% policy of turning down ANY high pressure sales technique. Yes, I've walked away from a couple of deals I probably should have taken because the salesman was skeevy, but I've also escaped MASSIVE costs because I don't trust anyone who tells me I "have to."

I can sometimes be talked into bad decisions, but I no longer get backed into them. :)
