Can You Guess What's Hidden Inside this Kitchen Cabinet? Design Megillah

I'm a bit disappointed as thought this article would be about making HOME deoderizer, not underarm deoderant. Otherwise, it does sound interesting. Not sure I'd be inclined to go to this much trouble, though.

Absolutely stunning! I love the whole kitchen. I don't even like the color blue but love these walls with the white tiles setting off the dark blue. Great job!

These are all impressive! I think the ones with fireplaces are extra-beautiful, but the apartment dweller can't really take credit for those. It looks like limiting colors to mostly black and white, or cream with a little black, helps make the spaces appealing.

Very nice renovation. Your kitchen is beautiful! And I, too, love the color of the door.

70 - missed the one about the Gambrel roof and about the Painted Ladies and the one about what constitutes colonial style (I said a rectangular floor plan).

Definitely cozy, in that I really dislike windows without curtains and floors without rugs. However, the "cozy" photo shown above has way too many patterns and too much fabric (on top of various surfaces) for my taste.
I do like to keep the tops of furniture bare, if possible.

I absolutely need to have a tub! Other than that, I love the cooler colors in the "after" version of the bathroom.

Yes, I throw either a Sunday morning brunch party or Saturday evening cocktail party for myself every birthday. It is a great opportunity for various of my friends to meet each other, as I have friends from work, from the gym, from church, and from other activities. I do feel hurt when people can't make it, but, invariably, the people who do attend seem to have a lot of fun.

Also, I love to cook, so, like the original poster, make some nice food and serve good wine and some nonalcoholic drinks.

"Amour" shows the apartment I've always dreamed of! My current apartment looks a little like that, but is tiny so I can't fit all the bookshelves and such in it.

@Gwendolyn_ATX, I did see Anna Karenina, and admired the dresses and the actors very much. However, most of the scenes seemed to be in that rope-filled behind the stage kind of setting, not pretty or interesting at all.

I think butcher block countertops, for kitchens, will return! All that granite and stainless is getting old!

@anneofgreengable -- LOVE my landline, especially for lengthy phone conversations. There is nothing comparable in cell phone reception -- there are always those "fading in and out" voices. Also, landlines work in power outages!

I agree with the posters who think all white rooms (ala Syrie Maugham) will make a comeback. Maybe not with the fringed lampshades and sofa covers, but the basic all-white or off-white furniture and walls will return!

Strangely enough, it looks a lot like one of my first apartments when I was in my early 20's (that was back in the 70's). A lot of his furniture and accessories are very similar to those I had. And my apartment was in Chicago, so also in a very urban area.

My post isn't really about a regret; I bought a beautiful, creamy off-white damask covered sofa in 1993. I love it, have never regretted buying it, but now, it's getting a little shabby looking. The problem now is what to get next. I do like the color, but think maybe a sleeker sofa, with white linen or white leather upholstery, would be more stylish. Anyway, that's my current problem: figuring out what the replacement sofa will be!

Hardly different at all. I grew up in a congested neighborhood in a large city and now live in a congested neighborhood in a different large city. I miss my original city, though! The pluses of my life now though include: the neighborhood in which I now live is considerably safer than the one in which I grew up, and taxes are lower. The minuses are that my original city is much friendlier and has much better museums.
I could never live the suburbs!

Very nice article on floors. I do greatly prefer the black and white floors to those of gray and white or other colors, but enjoyed seeing all these rooms.
