If you want some contrast with the shower curtain or a nautical feel to your stripes,you could go with orange or a yellow stripes or a muted palette suits you better, then you could go with a gray or a khaki stripe. Anyway, good luck!

Love it! Infact my two girls (almost 6 & a 2 year old) have these same Ikea beds (in off white),oriented the old school way but this is so charming :) Considering their room is small it also allows to create a feature wall behind the beds & have enough room for play.

It's a lovely combination for a girl's room, definitely use white to ground all these bright hue's. Visit store's like home good's for more inspiration. Let your 'lil girl create her own art with your help,it's going to be unique.
I myself am in the same situation as you are,since we recently bought our first home,have 2 girls (5yrs & a 17 mth old) & in the process of decorating their room. I painted the walls a light aqua, the other accent colours, are yellow with splashes of pink,& used white for furniture. Let's see how it goes...this is what I have in mind so far!

bedroom privacy all the way... guests can roam around the kitchen,family room,formal living & dining space but bedrooms should be off-limits.

Paint the fireplace,go for it! Yes,the red is too repulsive for a sofa for me, go with a neutral grey or the beige family, since you are already thinking of getting a new sofa. Good luck!
