Oh my--I love your windows! I have a corner apartment in Brooklyn as well but some of my windows are so tiny they may as well not be there. Love the living room furniture too.

Lovely job. It's not easy to make a cookie cutter place-with wall to wall carpeting!-look so chic.

Delightful. Working with a rental that prohibits alterations is one of the biggest challenges of all (speaking from experience here!) and you have done a wonderful job of making it your own.

Another vote for Good Food, and I've never even been to Southern CA! I like Splendid Table too but I think Evan really keeps it fresh. I never miss an episode. I can't wait until the day I can visit LA and use Jonathan Gold's recommendations as my compass.

I'm with you, cmcinnyc. I'm an east coaster through and through but I cry a little every week when I listen to the Market Report on Good Food.

Another Fresh Direct junkie here. I'm still not super happy about the amount of packaging (when I buy produce at the grocery store I rarely put them in individual plastic bags) but my current schedule--full time work, part time grad school--doesn't allow me much time for grocery shopping, and the produce options in my neighborhood absolutely suck. Fresh Direct's produce ratings are really accurate and they have great organic and local choices too. In the end it saves me a lot of time and money because I don't have to take the time to actually go shopping and I can just get cooking, meaning I spend way less on eating out. Once I am done with school and have some more time, I will try to cut back on my Fresh Direct habit, but now it really works for me and helps keep me cooking :)

Thank you for giving vegan cheese a fair shake. I'm not vegan but I have a bit of a dairy allergy so they are really my only option :/
I've tried many vegan cheese and I have to say Teese is probably my favorite. It's hard to find (they don't even carry it at whole foods) but melts nicely and I have even made a dairy-free caprese salad with it! (for those of you in the DC area, they sell logs of it at Sticky Fingers) http://www.chicagosoydairy.com/teese_vegan_cheese/
Daiya is also melts beautifully by vegan cheese standards and I'm starting to see it in whole foods. There's also Sheese--better for snacking than melting, but I only see it occaisionally at whole foods and haven't really seen it anywhere else.
Has anyone tried almond cheeses? I've seen it with the soy and rice cheeses at whole foods. Have also been meaning to try the Dr. Cow cashew cheeses but those are also tough to find.

I heat up grape nuts. It's nice and oatmeal-y but super fast--like less than a minute in the microwave. Excellent with almond milk!

I found this video super helpful even if the quality was a little poor. I didn't carve it exactly as Emma did since the bird was too hot, but I had a WAY clearer idea of where to cut. Cheers for this!

I just got a mandoline and I'm very excited about it, so I've been making a nice autumnal slaw with fennel, apples, and cabbage, with shallots that I quick-pickle in red wine vinegar and salt (mince and let them soak while you're slicing and chopping the other fruit and veg). Then just add salt and pepper to taste, and a bit of olive oil. I'm addicted! I even added some wild rice the last time I made it to make it a bit more filling so I could bring it for work lunches.

When my SO and I first started dating he told me if he could take a pill for all his nutrition and never have to eat, he would do it (I think that might be a Dave Eggers quote or something?)

Fast forward six years, and he's still terrified of onions and potatoes, and I'll tell you, it's been a contentious point in our relationship. I REALLY REALLY do not get the anti-potatoes thing. But, I have convinced him to try sushi and Indian food, and he now loves both! Despite my willingness to eat pretty much anything and his pickiness we've managed to find common food ground. As long as you have some foodie friends who will go out to eat with you at more adventurous places, you will be fine.
