I suppose that was harsh, so let me rephrase: I can't imagine anyone doing this unless the dresser was really, truly, and honestly beyond other use. Before & After: Old Dresser Becomes a Garden of Succulents Grizzly Bear Modern |

Foam mattress is about five years old; I'll replace it when it begins to feel too squishy. I buy inexpensive pillows, wash them every four-five weeks and replace them every six months or so. When Did You Last Replace Your Pillows & Mattress? Reader Survey |

Biodegradable housing has its place, I'm sure, but where, and in what circumstance? Hunter gatherers? I don't mean to criticize; I do appreciate the idea that we could leave few traces and little damage. Maybe I need to digest this. Dominic Stevens' Biodegradable House |

A gorgeous copper floor lamp. I told myself it was too expensive, but I could have bought it. My mother visited, we went to the antique store, and she bought it out from under me. It's been almost 20 years, and I still have to look at it every time I walk into her living room. She uses an ugly glass shade, too. Damn. Object Lust: What's Your Gem That Got Away? |
