Perhaps I've watched too many episodes of Spongebob with my children. I believe Sandy Cheeks the Squirrel lives in something much like this.

@Britomart
Please explain "snow clean"!
I live in the Twin Cities and right now there is more snow than I can shake a rug swatter at.

You mention wishing to paint the railings white. I think they are beautiful in the black! They mimic black the photo/art frames and add a wonderful texture. Especially at the base of the stairs. Wonderful space.

@mary wise: You are so right. I rearrange furniture every few weeks. Each time I think "ok, this is the placement" yet it eventually moves again.

@bloggerpolice: thank you!

@Everett305 & @scoobydubious: why, when there is no need? ish.

Completely side-tracked by the photo of the actual damage. I love it! Would be a fantastic piece of abstract art if framed. Dark, moody, a bit questionable as to subject. Mind if I steal it? (No joke!)

By far my favorite featured home on AP. This house reflects true living and love. I am actually a bit teary-eyed with a feeling of longing. I've never had such a strong reaction to the space inhabited by strangers.

This MUST be sent on to the Ellen show. She loves to receive these strange old album covers. The way everyone is swooning over Santa's horn as it protrudes from his sack had me howling with laughter before I even read the post.

All of these suggestions are wonderful. I have them on my iPod, but will specifically create an APXmas playlist for fun. Our household has beed singing "Gramma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" since Halloween!

These type of laundry baskets have always made my heart pitter-patter faster... ever since the movie "Annie", when she sneaks out, red curls hidden beneath dirty sheets.

I see my sad little vanilla laundry room completed with this "cherry on top". Oh, the uses buyond stinky clothing! A giant toy bin, a catch all on the screen porch for soccer balls and skateboards. Endless love.

That desk is wonderful. Love this home! I also use "oops" paints. The savings are fantastic and if I hate it I don't feel I have to live with a color I paid $5 for.

Need a Little Help With Your Housework?

Thank you for your positivity, RednGreen.

A further great idea would be to put little rubber caps over the hook ends.

I'm sure that brightly colored items were used for the picture. It is unlikely anyone, especially home advice experts, would hang a thin collared shirt from that hook daily. This is a great idea for scarves, purses, bags, SCHOOL BACKPACKS, a utility closet, pot rack, and so much more. My family has dozens of hoodies that would fair just fine on a hook like this, hung from the hoods or the specially sewn hanging tabs inside the collar.

It is not the writers who alienate readers with their selections or articles. Instead, it is the aftermath of readers whizzing arrows the writers must shield out or sink in. First, readers must thoroughly read the article, not skim. And if one still feels a need to comment, take the time to peruse the comments that have come before you. Repetitious complaining and squabbling because commenter after commenter fails to recognize their irritated jab is a carbon copy of the 10 before. OR even after the author's own explanations, as in the case of Graphist.

For future comment threads, perhaps kinder comments or none at all if something presented is not to your taste or price points. For instance, a HOUSE CALL highlights a young man's first apartment which he has proudly outfitted proudly enough to make himself vulnerable on the internet with a site I would hope to be a community of ideas and inspiration, support and suggestion. If his walls are grey with brown floors with black furniture and typeface *gasp!* accessories.

Instead of comments in a row of:
"Ugh. Enough with the grey walls!"
"Typeface decoration is becoming an old trend."
"It's too dark and depressing."
"Not my taste."
^^^^^^^^^^This last one is my favorite. Why tell us? Move on. It is simply a negative jab.

Let's try "I don't care for this in my home but [if you must even begin the comment that way] I love how you've captured serenity on that beautiful ledge with the sun glowing through your plants. Beautiful lamp next to the bed too! Maybe something like a colorful book or velvet art on the table would highlight the lamp that much more."

Kudos again to Catrin for acknowledging what could be viewed as a wrongly worded. As a writer myself I continually watch for "The difference between the right word and the wrong word is like the difference between the lightening bug and the lightening." (Mark Twain's words.) And before the question arises, I have been reading AT for eons, finally logged in a few months ago, and have waited until NOW to post my own first novel-length comment. Catrin's explanation should have been enough to clear things up. Yet more comments came... they always do. Sorry Catrin, in Abe Lincoln's borrowed words: “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

But Catrin! You did ask all of us readers "What are your favorite sources for fabulous pillows?" I believe this to be in the spirit of what I feel the true community of AT to be. Some offered the example of etsy, which I too love! Others suggested Urban Outfitters. Another plugged her own site because it was relevant to the discussion/question.

My official answer:
You showcased high-higher end pillows, gorgeous, fun, 'eye candy', definite inspiration. I am digging on the top left orange one. But instead of using pure leather I think I will tackle the project with a child size bed pillow and some orange and rust shades of felt cut into shapes of rounded leaves. I also have at least 10 or 12 throw pillows I have stored because I grew bored with them. Rather than getting rid of them and buying new pillow forms, I think I am going to search out a fabric similar to the purple with white highlighted tulip-like flowers and simply slip cover my existing high quality pillows! Great post to make us think!
