Been eating out all weekend... spending some time at home today prepping for the week. A big pot of potato corn chowder, a big salad, putting some chicken thighs in the slow cooker for Mondays dinner and to have as lunches during the week, and maybe some cookies too. Tonights dinner is steaks and veggies on the grill... gotta use it while we still can!

Just got 'How to cook gluten free' in the mail this week, which I heard about on the kitchn of course. About to get started on a gluten free plum cobbler - picked up too many plums at the farmers market! Dinner with family tonight but I'll be putting together a few things for lunches this week later on - a soba noodle salad, green salad, and baking my first loaf of gluten free bread. Trying to get used to this whole gluten free thing!

A good friend made hamburgers last night and brought them over to grill with all the fixings (even found good gluten free buns for me!). It's been forever since I had a burger and they hit that summer craving perfectly. Tonight is a BBQ on the beach with friends... I made a carrot cake with cream cheese icing (gluten free), and we'll bring chicken skewers and a kale salad (with the lemon tahini dressing from oh she glows - I'm obsessed with it!).

Oops... forgot to comment yesterday! But there was so much great food this weekend I'll share now anyway. Steaks on the grill and a variety of salads on Friday. Saturday was mostly eating out: Lots of snacks at a local italian street festival (pasta, panini and canoli, yum), then dinner at our favourite sushi place followed by some amazing gelato (the grapefruit-campari flavour was so good, it's now a goal to recreate at home). Yesterday was buckwheat crepes with apple cinnamon caramel filling, thick cut bacon, and tons of fresh melon and berries on the side, whipped up a pan of brownies with sour cherries and white chocolate chunks, and also a big batch of pasta sauce with italian sausage and mushrooms for dinner last night, which will also be lunches throughout the week.

Went out for a fabulous brunch on Saturday - amazing Belgian waffles with white chocolate pistachio rose water topping! Brought crab stuffed mushrooms caps to a party Saturday night. Today I hosted the girls for brunch - I made my favourite frittata, freshly baked croissants with jams, a lemony arugala salad, fruit salad, coconut nanaimo bars, artichoke dip, and of course mimosas! I just finished throwing together a bean and noodle soup for lunches this week as well as some ginger-scallion--srirracha soba noodles for tonight. Now the boyfriend just has to grill up the miso black cod thats been marinating since friday and were all set :)

Just finished up a delicious frittata for Saturday brunch with asparagus, caramelized onions and brie - will deffinetely be recreating that one. Cruising the kitchn for dinner ideas now, thinking something with shrimp, maybe scampi or shrimp and grits. I have 2 big bunches of kale to use up so I'll have to incorporate that as well. Planning to try a recipe for sweet potato and date muffins tomorrow.

Rice noodle bowls with maple miso gilled tofu and lots of spring veggies tonight, Sunday breakfast will be potato and andouille sausage hash with poached eggs, for dinner on Sunday I'm thinking the Kitchn's barbacoa slow cooker beef tacos and there is a recipe for gluten free brownies I've been wanting to try. I will need some sweets to fuel studying for finals this week!

I think I have a lot of unusual food preferences...
- I HATE Bananas. Or anything with banana in it. I hate even being in the room when someone else eats a banana, the smell is the worst part.
- I used to be really wierd about my food touching on the plate, but I have let this go for the most part. Now only foods that "go together" in my head can touch. If I am having salad it absolutely MUST be on a seperate plate. If salad touches warm food it gets wilty and soggy, gross. And if salad dressing gets on the other foods thats gross too.
- I love a mix of maple syrup and ketchup on my bacon, sometimes even on my eggs (canadian thing?).
- I go crazy with condiments. I won't eat things like macaroni or scrambled eggs without ketchup, chips without dip/ salsa, chicken or turkey without loads of sauce/ gravy/ cranberry. I load my sandwhiches/ burgers up with mayo and drown my pasta in sauce. I just find a lot of foods dry and tasteless without any help. Its funny because my boyfriend is the exact opposite and I am always surprised at how he can eat things so plain.
- Like a lot of people I like my water room temperature (not too cold) and my tea luke warm (not too hot). But I blame this one on sensitive teeth.
- One more! I drink everything through a straw. If I have a glass of water without a straw it will not get drunk. Don't know why that is, habit I guess. Except for wine. No straws in my wine please.

We tried all of those exact same shades of gray on our walls when we painted last year! We went with sidewalk gray and I love it. I use the same technique for picking a colour, except I think I only narrowed it down to 3 or 4 shades before painting a sample directly on the wall.

Having friends over for dinner tomorrow, going to try my hand at coq au vin (properly) for the first time! Serving it with roasted fingerling potatos, fresh bread and salad. Dessert will be chocolate peanut butter whoopie pies - it is my boyfriends pre-birthday dinner and anything chocolate peanut butter is his favorite (real birthday is next week but we are going out that night). Wish me luck!

I have had a half full jar of Tahini sitting in the back of my fridge since.... maybe March or April. I have been avoiding using it since I don't know if its good anymore. How long does Tahini last?
