Metal pegboard is the way to go. It won't chip and break apart and is great for heavier tools. And the bulletboard kind is even available in different colors. At On: Organizing Your Tools For Real |

I've used the metal bulletboard pegboard. The best part about it is that it is magnetic too so I could use magnet clips as well as the pegs. Worked great for storage in my pantry and craft room. How To: Make a Pegboard Wall Organizer |
