Other than the much pointed out fire-risk, this seems like an awful idea to me purely from a smoke point of view - it doesn't take long to fill a room with BBQ smoke and fat residue - it takes much longer to get it out!

We slept on one of these full time for three years: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89874376 and if our roof hadn't leaked and ruined the mattress we'd probably still be sleeping on it.

Ridiculously comfortable for a sofa bed.

We abstained from the typical (extremely large, and messy) housewarming parties we'd had in pur previous (rented) houses as we own the house we moved into, and didn't particularly feel like trashing it!

A tabletop dishwasher would fit under a farmhouse sink - although you'd have to do a lot of bending to get anything in or out.

If you're planning to use the height of the room it could easily be built in as a part of a taller cabinet so that it was at a more preferable tabletop height - you could even keep the crockery in a cupboard above/below it for easy putting away!

The plastic containers that bulk business cards and compliment slips come in make great drawer dividers/organisers. I used to take them home by the bag load.

Unless you are a budding DIY carpenter with lots of prior project experience this isn't a project I would 'wing'.

Fixing the damage you are likely to do to it will probably cost more than to hire the professional in the first place.

My bookshelves (and all my DVD's - much to every house guests dismay) are arranged by colour. I have a photographic memory- so I know exactly what I'm looking for and where.

From the pictures it looks like your whole place is painted cream/magnolia/builders beige...

Personally I would paint everything white before tackling the partition wall - for which i'd choose a charcoal/very dark grey.

the grey would pull all your furnishings together nicely and would also work extremely well with a really bright, cool, yellow for the kitchen splashback.

I still use a filofax for personal use and am lost without it! For work I rely on a day book.

I have electronic calendars and have to use them for work, but I would be much happier if I could have a large yearly organiser on the wall to write on instead!

We use mygiftlist.com - and have done for several years.

It seems to be less high-tech compared to CheckedTwice, but I especially like the button you add to your toolbar to instantly add something to your list, and that viewing your own list doesn't show of anything has been bought for you.

For our extremely large family, all of whom gift each other, it does the job extremely well - and means that there's much less present buying stress and everyone ends up with a present they want!

We moved in to our (much larger, first owned) house on Sep 20th - the kitchen is done for the time being (although we will be replacing it), bathroom is done (although still working out where linen will live), the living room is mostly done, with a pile of boxes in the corner that i need to think about. Our main obstacle is our bedroom which came with zero storage.

I'm having built in wardrobes put in in the next week or so, so hopefully this will be enough space to solve the problem - but until then all my clothes and shoes are in boxes in bags. It's driving me INSANE!

My cats will only sleep in my dirty washing, or on our heads.

They refuse to drink out of anything other than the bath faucet and their absolute favourite foods are olives, peas and melon. Both will beg like dogs to try and steal some of these!

Big cat likes socks, and will often come home to find clean and dirty ones strewn all around the house. If we're lucky to catch him at it he has what we call the 'sock noise' - the strangest little miaow that he only does when he's 'caught' a sock. So cute.
