I hate my Miele. It broke after 6 months and the dealer here did nothing -- plus he's nasty and makes it unpleasant to shop there. I should have followed up with the company -- but I was so angry that I bought an $80 small vacuum cleaner from Amazon and it is still running after 4 years. Even though my husband and I live in a 5,000 sq. ft. home in the country we get a hotel room for anyone who asks to stay with us. Only our children are allowed to stay overnite as they were brought up to be neat, tidy people and my son in law is a fabulous cook. Even my teenage grandson knows the house rules and still comes to stay with us often, and is neat, tidy, and helpful. We learned long ago that having friends crash with us was a nightmare. We have found it easy to just say NO, but we know a lovely hotel not far from us. 5 Tips for Being a Good Overnight Guest |

Deep clean your apartment yourself (maybe with a little help from your friends). Box up all the things that are taking up space and not giving you comfort. Take down all the pictures over the bed and box up. Paint walls same color (unless Landlord approves something else). Less is more. Buy a happy coverlet for the bed. Stand back and BREATHE! Where is a recipe for GRITS? The staple of Southern Breakfasts. I like mine with melted provolone cheese and a few dollops of yogurt with some of the fruit from the bottom. 15 Quick, Easy & Make-Ahead Breakfasts Recipe Roundup |

Great posts. Growing up we had two housekeepers -- who picked up after me, washed my clothes, and cooked the meals. I never had to clean or do anything other than have fun. When I married -- it was like a pie in the face -- suddenly I had to clean, do laundry, do it all. I never took the time to be taught how to do these things. My trick was to pretend every morning that my mother in law was going to drop in on me unexpected -- cleaning went fast. Even though I am now the one with the big house and two housekeepers there is one big looming thing that only I can do -- THE CLOSET. Believe it or not but your friends will come over and sneak a look at your disorganized, messy closet. 8 Things That Would've Made Adulthood Easier |

This wonderful place is neither cold, nor stark. It's just right. Those of you who like clutter -- clutter your own home to your heart's content. It's also not the amount of money you have but how you choose to use it. I had/have white sofas and had 2 girls and their friends grow up on it -- now I have a 12 year old grandson sitting on white. You teach respect for what you have, as, my kids only eat in the kitchen -- they did not put their feet on the furniture. Just common manners (Southern raising maybe). Don't dis anyone else's taste -- think what they might say about yours. My mama always said if you can't say something nice then keep your mouth shut. I love the whole house, but would love to know where things came from. The Stathoulis' Mid-Wilshire Wonder House Tour |
