My son has recently been into both dragons AND eating tacos. Perfect timing! Reserving this from the library right now...

Gasp! I wish we had an actual hallway somewhere in our house.

So is this essentially a chair with the legs sawed off? Hm...I'm off to search for my saw!

Huh. I wasn't aware that my cat requires his own drinking glass.

We have the tea set pictured here, and I can attest to its durability. My son is pretty rough on his toys, and this set has held up beautifully. I gave it to him when he was 2, so I just stashed the tea bags and little spoons for when he's older.

Yay! I have been looking for paint by number sets for YEARS that lead to a painting I'd actually want to keep when finished.

Also, the stroller was pretty useless for the first year or so...I wore the baby everywhere.

Another vote for the Bumbo & Boppy pillow being useless (to us, anyway). Also, those velcro swaddle thingies - swaddling with an actual blanket works just as well, and then you have an actual blanket to use for non-swaddling purposes, also.

I'm thinking: IKEA duvet cover (cut down so it's more square), zip it through the sewing machine to make 4 chambers (double seam with a little space between, so it has room to fold), fill, sew up openings. BAM!

Any thoughts on how she attached the chalkboard?

Thanks for all the input & ideas. It's helpful to have the perspective of people who have older kids (compared to my toddler, that is) and have been dealing with larger volumes of artwork. :)

I like the digital photo or scanning ideas, but as some people have said, having the real thing in your hand does have special significance.

I also really like the idea of purging around each birthday and deciding what to keep. Perhaps I'll settle on some combo of keeping only a handful of really significant/wonderful pieces each year, scanning those same ones plus a few more, and trashing the rest.

I have almost no artwork from my childhood (unless there is a stash I'm unaware of), and I took art lessons for YEARS. I don't know where it all went. I wish I had some of it to look back on. Not every scrap of paper or goofy crafty project, but a few things from each year would have been nice to have.

I wish they would make a tea set that's not pink & girly! I actually emailed them about this a couple of months ago. They sent me a very nice response, the gist of which was "we've considered it...". It makes so much more sense to make play kitchen pieces that are gender neutral. I don't know why they'd only do a pink/lavender option for the tea set. That said, we really like their trucks!

OK, I am officially coveting these. However, there's an awful lot of white on them. I expect they would get grungy-looking pretty quickly...

Tapikid Playmats: Way Cuter than the Average Playmat

We had the same problem with the underside of the mat & tub getting funky. The issue is that the mats never dry out when they're stuck to the tub with suction cups. I started hanging ours up after each bath, and the problem has disappeared, because the mat dries out (and so does the tub). We have one of those mats that's supposed to look like pebbles (see link below), so it already had holes in it. I went to Target and bought two really strong suction cups to stick on my shower wall. After the bath, the mat gets hung on the wall. My tub isn't that slippery, so I don't use the mat when I shower. Therefore, I only need to put it down and then back up on bath days.

We've been really happy with our Kinderville bowls & cups. They are made of silicone, but it's really thick, heavy, sturdy silicone (not the floppy thin stuff I've seen in some stores). The bowls are flat-bottomed, and that makes it easy for my son to use his little toddler utensils with them. I've seen the storage jars starting to crop up at some stores here in Minneapolis, but you'll probably have to go online for the bowls & cups.
