I have the same problem in our tiny bathroom. I've moved the towels to big adhesive Command hooks that are right outside our bathroom, and I make sure to hang the rug on the towel bar so that it dries. I leave the door open at all times. I have even resorted to making sure the toilet lid is always down so that *that* water doesn't evaporate into the bathroom.

I have also seen a moisture-absorbing plaster I reaaaally want to use, called American Clay. Maybe you could ask your landord to install it. Send him/her this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqnYaHAWPbk. As a landlord myself, I am considering this in our rental's bathroom (that when people are just too lazy to clean and/or ventilate, molds...and man is that expensive to clean).

mginwa - Yes. I watched a Julia Child video where she recommended almost that exact method. She even talked about how eggs have changed since she first started cooking, and that all that didn't used to be necessary (if I remember correctly). These videos changed my life: http://www.pbs.org/food/julia-child ;)

JojoRocks - It takes our Roomba a few hours to do its thing. I can definitely see a dog going craaaazy when this is running. I'm sure Youtube has some videos that I'm not going to look up, lest I become consumed by the world of online pet footage.

It's my husband's birthday today, and since we had some leftover cream gravy, I made him biscuits this morning. I'd never made cream biscuits before, but they were fast, easy, and awesome! Nice coincidence that you posted this roundup today! I'll have to try some other new ones stat.

P.S. I used the James Beard recipe found in the Fanny Farmer Cookbook.

I have to do this sort if trickery to myself. I hate vegetables, despite the fact that my parents served them at every meal and I was required to eat them. At least they got through to me.

My new favorite trick is roasting or grilling veggies. I find it takes out the bitterness of things I wouldn't otherwise eat. Roasted broccolini us awesome. Grilled romaine with a light sprinkling of parmesan and red wine vinegrette.

Also, mixing them into pastas or gnocci will do.

Heck yah this is a luxury item! We have a Roomba and I would never part with it. I love cleaning but I hate cleaning the floors for some reason. With a very fluffy cat, there's no way a once-a-week clean would do. As a crazy cleaner I am so happy these exist.

I would also be interested in a side-by comparison of cleaning robots. The major flaw of the Roomba I think is that long hair and fine pet hair get so wrapped in all the parts that it has to be somewhat disassembled and cleaned from time to time. We've replaced the front wheel numerous times. It just cracks! Still love it though.

I am in the "Love Kale" camp. I'm very surprised by this, because I hate most vegetables -- especially green ones. Especially spinach. The only green veg I would eat growing up is collard greens.

I made kale chips once and was so happy to learn that I couldn't stop eating them. Later we found a good Caesar salad recipe in GQ that I loooved, and now I realize I just like kale. I'm still astounded, and thankful that there's another something green out there that I'll eat.

RE: Rainywoods: Hopefully I'm not mistaken, but my cat's claws retract just fine with claw caps. After several weeks, when the claws have started to grow out and are about to fall off they do click a bit on the wood floors. We actually haven't been using them unless we know a small child will be coming to the house, and I think that since she didn't have sharp claws to use from 4 months+ she doesn't destroy things. She does love her scratchers still, which is great. The thing with claw caps, though, is that you really have to keep on top of them. When they come off, there's a very very sharp, brand new nail exposed. Just keeping on top of the trimming has been enough for us, fortunately.

Tesstify: Wow at the claw-cap chewing!!

Anyway -- off the subject of cats: We got a nice micro-suede couch from Bo Concept. My husband reaaally wanted white, and the lady in the store promised it was easy to clean. Ugh. It's easy, but you have to do it a LOT or it does look dingy. I obsess over our couch and can't look when we have people over who plop down with plates of food and glasses of red wine. It's a nightmare. Our next ouch will be grey.

Also, the cushion fabric has slightly stretched, so that the 2-piece L-shape no longer fits squarely together, and the cushions show wrinkles in what should be a tight, quarter-bouncing look. I'm constantly rotating the back cushions so that they keep their square shape. It's so high-maintenance.

If anyone has a recommendation for professional couch cleaning, please post! I've heard of it, but don't know where to start.

I have the IKEA "hidden desk" (Vika Veine), and its novelty has worn off, as sure as the hydraulic arms that hold it open. For one, the arms lost their holding power, and the desk had the potential to slam closed if bumped from the other side, or, if clawed from the inside by my unsuspecting cat. The felt inside is temping but her near-death encounter with the desk keeps her clear. After that, I went to IKEA and got two replacement hinges, but they have weakened as well.

The other thing I'll mention is that I had to get a laptop riser because ergonomic issues, so now it's a real pain to break it all down if I ever do want to close the thing.

It's very cool if you're not going to use it for a computer and have no small children or pets who might be slammed shut in it, but man, am I disappointed.

As for the standing desks, I also got a small, cool, wall-mounted, fold-down laptop desk on Amazon and it's great.
