This story is a nice change from all the hoarding horror stories on TV. I think people can live with very few personal items once they realize that they don't need that much stuff to be happy. It looks like that lady knew that she had a full life, good friends and family, her health, good memories, and didn't need much to prove her happiness.

My mother in law has this living room that she doesn't really use except as an extension of the dining room and for big family gatherings. She's recently painted the room with a hint of paint. Now the room is a mix of little bit of light pink walls, lots of brown trim, and sage green. What color should I go with for the curtains? The pictures of the room can be seen here: https://picasaweb.google.com/lalavina7/Room?authuser=0&feat=directlink

*gasp, I have the same bedroom layout as you guys (except that I have a reach-in double closet behind the tv). Do both your closet doors next to the bed open completely? I recently installed an Elfa system, but I haven't found the right doors/curtains. I wonder how annoying it would be to have one of the door to not completely open. I imagine it would drive me nuts.

Fabric. Ikat is gorgeous. Real Ikat from Indonesia can be expensive, so I like to use them as wall art. You can even frame smaller ikat swatches in clean white frames- think oversize white frames with wide white mats over colorful ikat cloth. Or, drape one long ikat roll vertically at the end of a hallway. I drape one roll on the walls at the top and bottom of my stairs.
