This is a little off-topic, sorry, but do people have advice on what is the best type of rug to absorb impact sound? I just moved to DC into a rowhouse in Dupont Circle which is perfect except the upstairs neighbors just got back from vacation and the impact noise from their footfalls is really loud and disturbing. It is percussive and wakes me up in the middle of the night. I believe the previous tenants upstairs had carpets. There is a rule about 80% carpeting in the condo's handbook, so I am crossing my fingers (tightly) that I can speak with the upstairs neighbors about it nicely and ask/convince/coerce them into putting down area rugs. Meanwhile, now that I know how thin the floors are, I want to get area rugs to avoid disturbing *my* downstairs neighbor. I am getting conflicting advice on noise abosrbing carpet from Google searching. Do you all have any thoughts on what type of rug is the most noise absorbent? My guess is that these cotton ones would not do the trick? Thanks and sorry for the off topic!
