I have an old garlic press that I use a lot.......I didn't know I was supposed to be ashamed of it. I also have a very, cheap vegetable peeler that I need to replace and I can't find one that works as well:(

One of the first things you need to do is look at the different areas of your yard and think about how they will be used, kind of like rooms. Will they be areas that you spend a lot of time in or will they be just walked through or viewed from the inside. The area that you've pictured seems to be an area that you look out on a lot. I'd think about privacy planting like perhaps some tall, clumping bamboo that can tolerate shade. The "lawn" area could include some shade loving ground covers or sedges (if you want a grassy look). Maybe plant some spring bulbs and small wildflowers in with the sedges, or not if you like a neater, more formal look. If you want to do mass plantings of just a few plants, look at mail order nurseries that will sell you trays of plugs. Prairie Nursery sells excellent quality plugs of native grasses and flowers at very reasonable prices: http://www.prairienursery.com/store/#.USWBTVqY5rE . Keep in mind maintenance requirements and what you're realistically willing to put into it. Have fun and post some more pictures!

@SherryBinNH it's that kind of elitist attitude that makes recycled products unaffordable and even unappealing to regular people, if you can afford 170.00 for one dish, well congratulations, but I'm pretty sure that any recycled glass dish does not cost anywhere near that to make and if it did the process would be quite out of reach for the average person....

It's not about not using useless books as decor, I'm all for repurposing, but there is something slightly offensive about displaying what sherrme so delicately called a collection of "stripper shoes" on books, it just doesn't seem right.......

This is the couch I want: http://www.smartfurniture.com/products/Helen-Sofa.html?att=86&cid=1097 tight button back, single seat cushion, and beautiful, unfortunately $1500 is out of my price range. I've had very similar experiences with couches and currently have a leather one that the seat cushions slide out from under you when you're sitting on it. I will be researching all of these recommendations as well!

Just a note, the plant you have labeled as purple sage is not an edible sage. This plant is an ornamental annual salvia species; horminum. Culinary sage is Salvia officinalis and is available with different leaf colors and they all have gorgeous purple spikes of flowers and it is a hardy perennial as well. Sage (Salvia) is a huge family of plants with many popular ornamental varieties and a few are edible so it's important to include the species name:)

Peonies like their buds to be just below the soil's surface, no more that 2" deep including mulch. Planting too deep is the number one reason peonies don't bloom. If you think that might be the case, wait 'til fall and dig and replant a little shallower. Peonies are such a fleeting pleasure but oh so worth it(unless they decide to bloom in the pouring rain which mine often do).

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a source for inexpensive basic frames in the 8.5X11 size. Many of my prints are that size and all I find in the stores are document frames with gold stripes around the edge unless I want to spend a lot more money, 8X10 is a dime a dozen....
