Those who loved #6, that is Kantha work from India. It's done in West Bengal - simple running stitch over a printed fabric. My friend Rajee retails them in India and you could pick it up if you have someone heading this way. It's pretty common at fairs and exhibitions too.

this is the same embroidery done on plain fabric in the traditional designs.http://www.craftandartisans.com/kantha-embroidery-of-west-bengal.html

Actually I think we forget about kids enjoying their childhood.

This might be claustrophobic to us and we might worry about sheet changes, but these little girls are going to grow up and always remember what a lovely little nursery they had

I guess the way we look at things is different - you'll see an Indian mother fussing over food but rarely over something like a swing. We have a rocking chair too and I have never squashed a finger or a toe

It's so lovely to see an Indian word up here today. I have two jhoolas in my home and I love them.

:) Love the house. Love, love, love it. Am pretty amused by the commenters who found the 'cuss words' trashy. Language evolves and fuck is no longer such a terrible thing to hear - just like bloody or damn. And I love the way it takes what might be an intimidatingly beautiful house and makes it your best friend with the potty mouth. I always thought we Indians were conservative, but I am happy to be proved wrong!

Great job, Kristin.

Actually these were very common in traditional Indian homes and are coming back in fashion. Of course not half as ornate as they used to be, but the basic idea is the same. Here are some images of the really old fashioned ones. Most homes used to have them indoors.

i'm growing to love this steel finish plus wood look. very nice. how does the lighting matter? we can all look past that at the changes and choose to appreciate or not.

Loved the place, Praveen. So nice to a house that doesn't scream desi and actually experiments with other stuff.

Was rather amused by the commenter wondering where the toilet roll was. On the other hand didn't see a mug either so decided not to respond!

actually you might not be able to simply rotate all your plants. it is a shock to their system if they are moved from one extreme of temperature to another so you need to do it gently. a plant that has been kept warm indoors should be shifted to a shaded patio or something before you finally move it outdoors and similarly, shift a plant that has been in the sunny outdoors to a shaded verandah before pulling it indoors.

I think its a beautiful room. and yes, it would also be a great guest room if Chi decides to move out.

i also think its nobody's business where one chooses to live. its amazing how people find it hard to understand other cultures. In India its considered rather cold and cruel to leave your old parents and move on - when you start earning it is time to pay back by taking care of them. A lot of Asian cultures work that way. Not that this is the space to be giving gyan (wisdom) - but hey, they shouldnt have been commenting on it in the first place!

you go girl, Chi

Lilac is not Indian white! you obviously got a painter who knew nothing (you get the kind everywhere). You could try Nerolac, Asian Paints, Berger - for a variety of shades from warm to cold.

Houses in climates such as ours are meant to have smaller windows and keep out the sun. In summer the temperatures touch 48 degrees and people die of the heat. huge glass windows are a Western concept that are popular in newer parts of Delhi, and actually quite a pain!

that said, my last home as well as my current home are flooded with light and i hope to share it here someday.

and oh yes, you do have a lovely home.
