Ahhhgh, bleach after every use! Seriously! What about just hanging it to dry after each use so water doesn't just sit on it and washing it once a week.

Bleach is so unnecessary and overly harsh.

People need to chill out on the obsessive over-sanitizing of everything. Hot water and regular laundry soap will take care of it.

We just recently bought a great crib from Target, it's the Dwell Studio Silver Lake one. It has 2 nice sized drawers underneath and also will convert into a toddler bed. We have extremely limited space for our nursery so storage was a high priority as well.

In Chicago the farmer's markets accept LINK cards (food stamps).

There are also a couple farmer's markets located in 'food desert' areas of the city.

People need to start relearning the lost skills of our grandparents and great-grandparents. Processed, pre-packaged food has made us lazy, fat and unable to feed ourselves.

I think it's a shame that people feel it's too time consuming to make their children a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for their lunch and buy frozen ones. When did we get too busy to feed ourselves?

I just use yogurt containers and put them in the fridge until I'm able to take them to the compost bin. I've never had problems with smell or fruit flies.

I usually take all my scraps to the bin once a week and by then end of the week I have about 5 or 6 large yogurt containers full of scraps. My fridge has a low rack on the door that fits them all perfectly. If the containers start getting funky I just recycle them.

Agreed, a $60 silicone container... It's a bit much when there's are much cheaper and easier solutions.

I used one of the corn based cat litters once and my cat thought it was food. She started eating it. Gross!

I currently use a silica cat litter and have to say the stuff is fantastic for small spaces. It's light weight, doesn't track especially when you use a top entry litter box and it absorbs odors really really well. It also will last up to a month with a single cat, of course you should scoop it out regularly.

An 8lb bag lasts me almost 2 months since I can fill the box twice with it.

Contrary to what a lot of people think silica cat litter isn't made of crystalline silica which is toxic to the respiratory system of cats and people. It's made of silica gel which is non-toxic.

For me somewhere between 800-1000 sq ft is the perfect size. My husband and I currently have a 2 bed 1 bath 1000 sq ft condo and it's perfect for the 2 of us, our dog cat and the baby (who will be joining us in a few months). The only thing I wish we had was our own outdoor space, a porch or balcony to have some plants or a grill.

$1300/month mortgage on 1000 sq ft 2 bed 1 bath condo in Hyde Park Chicago. Great tree lined street, friendly neighborhood, close to the lake. Best place I've lived in the city by far.

Same price in most place in the city would have gotten us some badly done gut rehab in a dodgy neighborhood, 1bed, 600-700 sq ft.

Used to pay $1100/month for 800 sq ft 2 bed apartment in Wicker Park area. Loved the place but hated the neighborhood.

Chicago can be affordable if you think outside the box a little and get away from all the transient "up-and-coming" areas. Check out the more established neighborhoods and you might be surprised by what you can find.
