In college a boyfriend broke up with me at 2am. By 10am the next morning, my dear friends had removed everything of his in the apt including all the photos of us on my photo wall. He was shocked when he stopped by to ask me back to see all the gaps where he used to be. His face was priceless. Still feel partly bad and partly awesome about that. My boyfriend gets HANGRY! I didn't notice it until our first trip together. A non regular eating schedule. We call it cranky. When I told him about "hangry" he was not amused. He declared that he is definitely more cranky than angry. Maybe if I had given him a snack first he would have been more ok with the term. A Word to Fear: Hangry! Word of Mouth |

I thought that might be John from Oaktown. So glad his wonderful shop has been highlighted. He is so knowledgeable. If you ever stop by the Farmers Market at Lake Merritt, make sure you stop by Oaktown next and he will match up spices to whatever produce to make the perfect meal. The shop smells amazing and has the freshest spices! Leagues better than whatever can be found in a supermarket. Great spices makes all the difference. After moving to a new place and on the hunt for a new brunch spot, I am completely fed up with yelp. The reviewers rave about a place where the croque monsieur is a $10 piece of burnt toast with crappy ham and cheese on top. It is starting to feel like getting advice from a friend with no idea what good means. Online Reviews: How Useful & Trustworthy Are They, Really? |

The exact cheese kits pictured from Urban Cheesecraft are available from William Sonoma for $25-$30. I picked up the Mozzarella/Ricotta kit. I have only made the mozzarella with 1% milk and it is still the most delicious mozzarella I have ever had. Warm it Up: Great Housewarming Gifts for Newlyweds |

Definitely agree with the need for a towel. But I have found that a sarong makes a great substitute. It dries quickly, takes minimal space, weighs very little, and has many other purposes. What to Bring or Acquire Immediately When Moving Abroad Setting Up Home |

I haven't had much practice with mangoes since the one time I sliced some up for a mango tiramisu (delicious by the way) my face puffed up and I was covered in hives. For a whole week I was a monster. I scared small children. No more mango for me. Which Foods Are the Most Dangerous to Handle? |

I always try out new recipes for people. It is a great excuse to make interesting and complicated things. The only exception would be my boyfriend's parents. Even after all these years, still want them to think I am flawless in the kitchen. Or as close as I can be with well practiced recipes. Do You Ever Make A Recipe For the First Time…for Company? I bought a cheese making kit from William Sonoma that included the citric acid, rennet, thermometer, instructions, etc. It was super easy. Even though we used 1% milk it was still the best mozzarella I have ever had including expensive store bought "fresh". How to Make Homemade Mozzarella Cooking Lessons from the Kitchn |

My vote is for tube on Piccadilly line and transfer to the Circle line to get to Westminister. While it will take about 40 minutes, I believe when most people think about seeing London one cannot help but think about walking past Parliament. How To Spend 8-Hour Layover in London? Good Questions |

Maybe it is just a NorCal thing to call them BLATs. I'm from Sacramento and I have always seen them that way. Also probably BLATs being on Sourdough bread and never white bread is a NorCal thing as well. Recipe: California BLT with Avocado and Basil Mayonnaise Recipes From The Kitchn |

I love my pyrex for pies. But wish they would stop this "new" design. My boyfriend managed to break a one of my pyrex 9x9 casserole dishes (a true feat only managed by leaving it directly on a burner turned to high heat then quickly cooled, oy) and is having trouble replacing it because the new pyrex is not really 9x9. Pyrex, I love you but the new design is awful. We don't want larger non standard sizes! Baker's Tip: Choosing the Right Pie Dish |

What a timely post. I made meatloaf last night just the way my mom used to make it when I was a kid. Broccoli on the side and broccoli stem ground up and put in the meatloaf. She did it to sneak in a little extra veggie but also to stretch her food dollar by adding more to the beef and not wasting broccoli stem which my sister and I would not eat otherwise. As a proud Californian I want to pay state sales tax for Amazon purchases. California has been in real budget peril for years and needs the revenue of online purchases. The cuts to education and social services would be a lot less if the state had gotten the sales tax from all of the amazon purchases in the state. I would rather pay a small tax than see the infrastructure and higher education system in this state crumble. The Amazon.com Sales Tax Man Cometh! |

My boyfriend's family is full of liberals except one uncle and his wife that are fox news watching, rush limbaugh listening republicans. After many years of uncomfortable silences when the uncle brought politics to the table, the uncle has decided to skip all future family holiday meals because he was sick of no one agreeing with him. It's sad for the family. Except for in politics, they were both nice people and great company. They will be missed, though the uncomfortable silence will not. In my last apartment, I wasn't allowed to paint so I ordered chalkboard contact paper. It looked like it was painted but came off so easily. After two years and covering an area of 6' by 6' it only took off a dime size piece of paint in one spot. Landlord happy and I was happy. Perfect For Renters: 6 Blackboard Backsplashes |
