Seajenny, we moved 2 times in the same building, up to the second floor the last time. We asked the landlord if he had any guys who could help us move and he did, so we were lucky. But my best idea for you, is that when I had to move my kitchen stuff, I borrowed a shopping cart from my local supermarket, ( I did ask the manager first!) So all the food, kitchen stuff, clothes in bags, etc..., I just piled it into the shopping cart, and took it upstairs. We have an elevator so that totally helped, too. Good Luck. Our new place is bigger and much better & we like it. Making a \"Small\" Move: Is It Worth It? |

Although these craft rooms are beautiful, they are so sterile, neat, and void of inspiration, imho. I think a creative person needs a certain amount of 'disorder' to feel comfortable in. I know that when I'm doing some artwork, I kinda need all my stuff out and around me. I admire these well-organized rooms, but they're the kind-of rooms you see in mags and HGTV, maybe useful, but not used. Beautifully Organized: Craft Rooms |

My husband and I also downsized from a 4 bdrm house to a 1 bdrm condo, which is 600 sqft. We had to get a dumpster to get rid of so much stuff! (My friends came over to shop in my dumpster!) Sometimes I love it because everything is right at hand ,easy to clean, and no big yard to mow. Sometimes I miss having my house & I would like to just have 1 more room. I love the challenges of making double duty furniture, Our mid-century bureau holds our plasma tv, & the drawers underneath hold tons of papers, tools, art supplies, doggie toys, etc. All the closets have hang-over the door hooks for scarves & hats. You use all the space you have, become very efficiently organized. How To Downsize Without Losing Your Mind |

I've been shopping at Ikea for years, even furnished both of my son's bedrooms, & most of their college rooms too. Many pieces lasted for years, like the tall bookcase that rotated around to be a full length mirror! Love that piece. Their styling is superb,& the colors always punch up a room. The only complaint I have is the table I bought for my dining room is not wood, & the laminate scratches up a lot, but it was so inexpensive, I didn't expect much. I agree with you AbleandBaker. As an artist I don't want my home to look like everyone else's home,or like it came out of a Room and Board catalogue. So many of these house tours are nice, but they look as if no one ever lives there. Johnelle & Brian's Rejuvenated Treasures Home House Tour |

Also, Anna, wondering what kind of apron did you make? did you use a pattern? I am a messy cook and always looking for another apron style. Thanks! xxx jani Anna & Jon's Santa Barbara Craftsman Home House Tour |

Lovely home. It's nice to see a home where people actually live there, and not just staged for a photo shoot. You never see a tv in most of the room ads, they all look so fake. Anna & Jon's Santa Barbara Craftsman Home House Tour |

I agree that you have to add other pieces to a room, not just Ikea things, to make it unique. Where is the individuality in everyone's home looking the same? I do have many Ikea things in my apt., but also some antiques, lots of artwork, and some flea-market finds. Mix it up! IKEA 2012 Preview: Stylists' Design Ideas Worth Stealing |

I have just used some amazing Ikea placemats to cover my backsplash area behind my sink. They are metallic on one side and green and black polka-dots on the other. I just cut them to fit, and glued them up, temporarily, with a repositional glue stick, and it looks really cool and keeps the area behind my sink clean. Placemats are inexpensive and often come in really nice patterns. You could use it behind the stove too. Home Projects for Renters: Reversible Wall Decor |

My husband & I have a Tempurpedic for 2 years and love it to death. It's so comfortable, you just sink in, and it's not too hot or cold. They have many models to choose, you don't have to spend a fortune. It looks great with our Ikea bed frame too, and it's easy to make. We both have arthitis and think it really helps that too. I love old stone houses, they have so much more character than the new condos! Would love to find something like that here in NJ ! Auni's Cottage in the City House Tour |

That first photo of the kitchen looks nice, but can you imagine having to get to that microwave or toaster on a daily basis? And how do you reach the stuff on the high shelves,...always stand on a stool? I don't like photos like this that just look great, but in reality, are not very user-friendly or functional.
